Kathryn's Story

Ann Arbor HS (Pioneer) 1959-61 Upper Arlington HS 1961-63 Life Christian, college football fan (University of Michigan, University of Tennessee), language teacher, pleasant singer, mom of very adult daughter. 2 step-granddaughters, 1 step-grandson, 3 step-great-grandkids. Received Bachelor's in French/Spanish from OU in '67. I married my college sweetheart that same year. Completed teacher certification requirements through The Defiance College and did my student teaching in Bryan, Ohio. Joined Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority in Bryan, Ohio in 1971. Earned Master's in Spanish at U of Toledo in 1980, substitute teacher 70-84 in Toledo area, and divorced in 1984. Moved to Ann Arbor to enter Master's Program at U of Mich. Did not complete program at U-Mich. Foreign language substitute teacher in Ann Arbor area 84-96. Studied TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at E...Expand for more
astern Michigan University graduate program (2000-2003) and earned an Advanced Certificate in TESOL. Attended and graduated from THREE universities in the MAC. Is that a record? '96 began teaching English as a Second Language through Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) and lovin' it to this day. Starting 13th year in RESA Bilingual on Sep. 2, 08. Second and last marriage December 23, 2008; married to Lawrence (Larry) Purtzenski. Larry and I took our vows in Spanish and English. Moved from Ann Arbor to Clinton, Michigan in 2009. Retired from RESA June 30, 2010. Currently volunteering in kindergarten and 2nd grade classes at Clinton Elementary School, and LOVIN' IT! Looking forward to reconnecting with alums from OU. Spanish House, French House, Lindley Hall, Phi Chi Delta Presbyterian Sorority, Beta Sigma Phi sisters from Bryan, Toledo, Perrysburg, Maumee, and Ann Arbor..
