Kathryn's Story
Who knew what life would bring after Maine West! I spent a year at NIU then a year and a half at Illinois Masonic Nursing School, dropped out, worked as a secretary, said "this is nuts" and finally became a nurse from Triton College. I have been married twice, the second stuck through thick and thin. We have 2 grown boys, one of which is on his 3rd tour in Iraq. I have lived in CA and AZ and much prefer AZ. We have moved 14 times and this is the last stand! Apache Junction, Arizona. My husband and I can sit on our front porch and watch the sun go down on the Superstition Mountains. We have a little over an acre and the local wildlife are our "pets" so to speak. Lots of drama out at the watering hole! I have worked as a nurse since graduation from Triton, mostly in labor and delivery. Gosh I love those newborn babies!! However the last 10 yrs I have been behind a computer working for Matria-now Alere since we merged- where we take care of high risk pregnancies at home over...Expand for more
the phone/satellite systems. Now my emphasis is diabetes in pregnancy. I love my job and my co-workers. I love where I live and I LOVE my family. I am very lucky to have them and I have to say, Grandkids are the rewards we get for raising our own!
I look back on high school with fondness. It was fun and then not so much. Math, having PE 1st period, waiting for the bus at 7:15am in a mini skirt and nylons and the wind chill factor of minus whatever...versus playing in the marching band and for the musicals, having girlfriends and boyfriends. My husband was raised over seas and had very small classes. The good thing is they all knew each other, everybody knew everyone. But he doesn't comprehend the over 800 people we had just in our class. I am glad I went to Maine West, I got a stupendous education that made college a breeze. It gave me a solid base on which my life has been built both in education and life skills/people skills. Yeah, Maine West was great-GO WARRIORS!
