Kathe's Story
Life
Hi, I'm not sure how many of my classmates knew
that I'm a lesbian. Or, at least I learned how to
become one in the Navy. Now, it's
2009 and I'm finally at ease. The military training and mindset did help
me get jobs after I retired.
I'm a retired & disable Vet, and living off my retirement pay from the Navy in Bakersfield, CA.
Military
I joined the US Navy during high school in 1976. Spent the summer working in our local recruiting office. Then left for bootcamp after I voted in 1976.
From bootcamp as you can see by my communities I've been traveling a wee bit... I retired at the Naval Consolidated Brig just over 12 years ago. (Hard to believe).
In the Navy, I started out with bootcamp in Orlando, Florida (Closed due a realignments), school in Pensacola, Florida, secretary in Philadelphia, PA (Closed due to realignments), Boat mechanic on
Coronado Island, San Dieg...Expand for more
o, Boat mechanic in Naples, Italy, Corrections Officer in Long Beach, CA, (Closed due to realignment - now part of Los Angeles Port_.
Security Cop in Manama, Bahrain, school in Ayer-
Mass. (Ft.Devens - closed realignment), and lastly
Corrections Officer again a Naval Consolidated Brig,
San Diego, CA - still open, but the base is Marines
now. Then retirement Nov. 4, 1996. (Yah)
I was diagnosed with fibromaylgia in 2003 and can't work anymore. I was working at a library in El Toro (lake forest) for over 5 years as a Clerk and a Library Assistant. I had a short stint as a Custodian at a Post Office in Anaheim. But, I was in to much pain and had to resign. I even tried working part time at a library in Kentucky during the summer. But, only lasted a few weeks...
Well, if anyone knows anything about Fibromaylgia? I'd sure like to know...
and, what you've been up to since high school
