Kathy's Story
What have I done in my life? I left College Park in August 1979 and went to Wesleyan College in Macon. After having a ball there, I transferred to the local community college in 1981 in Bradenton, Fl. which is still where I live. I graduated with an AA in 1982 and then continued to University of South Florida and was in my senior year when I got married and because of the arrival of my son, Josh, in 1985 I stopped going to school. I had a daughter, Kristen, in 1988, and another son, Dylan, in 1992. I got divorced in 2003 and am still single. My life seems to be buzy to add an relationship at this time. I am actually enjoying being single. I am currently a substitute with Manatee County School Board and have returned to school with the intention of getting my BA in Special Ed in 2010. I was very suprised when I attained the grades to be on the Dean's List (Unbelievable!!!!) and am kicking myself because I did not do it earlier.
With three children,Josh 22, Kristen 20, and Dylan 16 I have led a buzy life. Josh, in the Army, has just returned from 18 months in Africa working to prevent the spread of terrorism and he will be heading to Germany in October for a 3 year tour. He will be heading to Afghanistan sometime in the fall. Joshua met the girl of his dreams and they are getting married on October 17, if the Army cooperates. g her first child in December. His name is going to be Luke and because his Dad is in the Army he will spend the first few years of his life in Hawaii. Dylan starts his junior year of high school August 21. I can't believe it, he was just a baby yesterday. He is real active in the Theater group at school. He plans on becoming a Fish and Game Warden in the state of Florida. I think the military is in his future. He is the only child I still have at home and I must say that having one child at home is alot easier than having three.
My brother and sister have lived all over the world with me being the only one that stayed near my parents. My father passed away in 2006 after a 14 year battle with Prostate Cancer. I really do miss him. My mom is still around and because Dylan and I live with her we are really close. It is now September of 2009 and life goes on. Dylan has had his learners for a year and I must say that I had forgotten how much fun it was to teach a teenager to drive. YIKES!
I believe my hero is my father. My dad and I were very close. He was the one who delivered me when I came into the world unexpectly on July 17, 1961. He was always there for me and watching him fight the cancer that would eventually kill him made me realize how lucky I was to have him for my father. I only hope that I can be as strong as him if I am ever challenged as he was.
