Kathy's Story
Life
Umm, well I am a third generation Evanstonian. I spent the first 25 years of my life in Evanston or a nearby suburb. I have five siblings. I am semi-retired and have traveled alot but not enough…
School
My second grade teacher inspired me to want to be a teacher. Close, I became a Social Worker. I can't remember any particular funny and crazy school events. My fondest school memories are the years I spent at St. Athanasius.
Workplace
I started babysitting at a young age. Would take my dollars downtown Evanston to Woolworth's, Kresskee (can't remember how to spell it) Marshall Fields, all those old stores....Expand for more
Valencia and Varsity movie theatre. In high school I worked briefly at McDonald's (and it was brief). I worked a variety of jobs when I was young; office/administrative work and bar tending while going to school and earning my degrees in Social Work. I have worked with domestic violence and sexual assault victims, Social Services (Child Protective) and 20 years working with the developmentally disabled. The pandemic helped me decide I was ready and I retired from my position in 2020.
Military
I was never active duty but I did 23 years with my Marine. Our military years were a blast, times I'll always cherish.
