Kathy's Story
Life
I re-located to Sacramento to help care for my mom in 2002 after being away for 24 years. I'm currently a manager with the state's Department of Health Care Services. I'm alone now that my youngest went off to college, and much of my off-work time is service work for the Al-Anon program for friends and families of alcoholics. I'm an Alateen sponsor (group facilitator) for kids ages 6-18).
I spent 23 years in Las Vegas, where I was the Executive Director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada--great job. I also spent one year living in Southern Florida. I have two children, Ryan and Lauren. Ryan is a first-year law student. Lauren, a senior at UC San Diego majoring in creative writing/lit,is also exceptional at glass blowing. She works part time in the hot shop on campus and also assists other well-known glass blowers in the area. Her goal is to get an MFA from Rhode Island School of design with a double major of glass...Expand for more

I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Cal State Sacramento and did a year of training as a medical technologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Worked two years as a med tech in Las Vegas before I had children. When the kids were younger, worked as a volunteer in the community and was later hired as a prevention specialist for a child abuse prevention agency. Got to do a lot of travelling over the years throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada, and visited the countries of England, Scotland, Wales, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, Figi, Greece and, most recently, Turkey. Also spent a month on an ashram high in the Himalayas in India. My hobbies are traveling, reading, gardening, astrology and studying Kabbalah. This is all quite foreign for the nice Catholic girl I was brought up to be! Anyway, it was great seeing everyone at the reunion in 2008--Go Broncos!
