Kathy's Story

Taught junior high school English and drama at Randolph Jr. High, then English and Drama at Northwood High School. Decided to go to NYC to see how I would do and landed a Broadway show, "Annie," in which I played Grace Farrell on Broadway, two years in LA at the Schubert Theater and originated the first and second National Tours. Did 13 years of professional musicals, commercials, tv and film. Then settled down and married my husband of 38 years, Ron Madden who was an opera singer--finalist at the Met--now in litigation consulting. We live in NYC and also have a home upstate NY in the country. No children. I received a fellowship for doctoral work in psychology and religion, finished my Ph.D. in 2002; Also did a four year residency in psychoanalysis and have a private practice on 57th Street and Broadway. I have published 3 books: Dark Light of the Soul, The Unconscious Roots of Creativity and co-edited the Encyclopedia of Psychology & Religion (Springer Publishers, 2009).now in 33 languages. Over 30 published articles, chapters in 3 books. I served as Academic Dean of the non-profit Blanton-Peale Institute (a post-graduate training institute for psychotherapists). After five years, I was invited to become the President and CEO of this organization. Ater 8 years of 12 hour days, 90 employees and 20,00o underrepresented persons given services by our Residents, I stepped down in 2007 to concentrate on my private practice, writing, and lecturing both regionally and internationally (Zurich, Copenhagen, Montreal, Seattle). I've edited Quadrant: The C.G.Jung Foundation for Analytic Psychology for 28 years and still am. To loosen up from all the high-level ambition, I joined a professional gospel choir of diverse races and cultures. We were filmed live on the Gospel Channel National Competition and won 1st prize best community-integrated choir and for the Eastern Region. Gospel singing will get your bones movin'! I have never stopped singing--just did it with a calming scotch on the rocks after the 12 hour days in administrative/...Expand for more
editorial/academic life, and would come home and DANCE in my living room like no one was watching. Since in NYC apts, you can often see your neighbors, I striped down to my comfort zone, figuring in my near-sghtedness, I can't see them. If they need to look across the alley at an over 50 woman, go for it! LOL. Both my husband and I still sing. I only have 1 solo on You Tube under Kathryn Boule--my stage name, along with some fuzzy clips of my scenes with Bette Hutton, John Schuck, and Allison Smith in "Annie." (check Annie, the Broadway Show, 1980. I'm the tall blond in the fancy cloak! I practice yoga, love to swim in our shoreline pool completely private in Upstate NY. I am currently producing my first fiction novel as a Musical Audio Book. I enjoy family history (genealogy) and gardening and cats (well, all animals really) and have become quite an advocate with the humane Society, PETA and Cuddly.. I am in touch with several friends from Springbrook, including Ellen Cook, and Gerry and Jo Mckee, and Kristi Waetjin. I miss our class, which was a really good one, with tremendously bright and wonderful people. Be in touch. I loved growing up in Fairland and going from elementary school through high school with some of the same friends all the way through. I'll never forget when I climbed a very tall tree with Cyrie Mayer and the fire department had to come to get us down. I longed in high school to participate in more things and be part of the "popular group." my heart had already been crushed, or should we say, my body, by unforntunate incidents by a boy 2 years older. Enough said. My esteem sank. Proabably mostly projection, but not entirely. 10th grade was very painful, and part of 11th grade. Then I finally ridded this person from my life after 3 years of trauma. I began to gain internal confidence, ran for SGA and lost by one point. I was taught to always give to the "other." Not always the best words of advice. I lost the position to Pam Reed because I raised my hand and voted for her. We learn, but it takes time.
