Kathy's Story
Life
My husband Will and I live in a small town in the Texas Hill Country, about 70 miles west of Austin and 60 miles northwest of San Antonio. Will is retired and we are slowly, but surely building our own home. We lived in big cities until this move and are enjoying small town (9000 pop.) life very much.
I have one daughter, Heather, and two grand-children, a boy and a girl. Grandchildren are truly one of life's greatest blessings. They live 300 miles away in the Dallas area, which means I've put a lot of miles on my car.
My passion is gardening and I am landscaping our property. When my plans get too grand, I remind myself I cannot do the entire four acres and I pull back.
I also spend 25-30 hours per week on alumni work for my high school, Colegio Nueva Granada in Bogota, Colombia. I search for the hundreds of missing alumni and maintain an alumni database.
Between working on the house, the landscaping, and the alumni work, I stay very busy!

School
We moved to Hawaii in 1960 and I went to Waianae Elementary through 7th grade(Homeroom Mr. McPeek). Moved to the high school for 8th grade. Friends were Colleen Bradbury, Kathy Chaffee, Charles Kleinschmidt, Doreen Arakaki, William Hambaro, Given Nakamine, Barbara Tabernigg, JoAnn Lum Ho, Peter Kim(I looked in the 1964 yearbook to refresh my memory). I hated to move; I loved my classmates and my school.
From Hawaii, we moved to Virginia Beach, VA and I went to Frank W. Cox High School for 9th and 10th grade. I just looked through the 1966 Talon and I'm stunned that after 41 years I still remember so many--Chip Morgan, Ricky Binder, Joe Ficarra, Archie Booth, Cleo Ayers, Christine Vissering, Anne Abbott, Mike Cole, Jimmy Dickerson, Debbie Eltsner, Reggie Early, Deb...Expand for more
bie Gammill, best friend Sandy Gaarder and lots more, wow! Hated to leave Cox also; had so many wonderful friends.
Then on to Francis Hammond High School in Alexandria, VA for part of 11th grade while my dad went to language school in preparation for our move to Bogota, Colombia. Friends were Scott Garvey and Larry Blackburn(no yearbook to jog the memory here).
Then Bogota, Colombia where I finished 11th grade and 12th at Colegio Nueva Granada, a small private American school. I am in touch with almost all my classmates from CNG--over 50 of them, through a CNG Class of 1968 email group. I've also been very involved searching for CNG alumni from 1950-1979 for a Master Database that I maintain. I have found hundreds of alumni all over the US and in many other countries and had a blast doing it.
Next was Sophie Newcomb College, the women's college of Tulane University for one year. Wow, what a party school--New Orleans and the French Quarter. Memory is very hazy, but roommate was Leigh Hamilton and good friend was Marsha Hallet.
After one year at Newcomb I married my high school sweetheart from Virginia. The Air Force took us to Spokane, Washington and I went back to college as an old married lady with a child and graduated from Eastern Washington U in 1978.
College
I talked about college in the 'school' part, but I went to Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans my freshman year('68-'69). Then I took some time off, got married and had a daughter. I returned to college in Spokane Washington and graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1978. I always intended to go back for my master's, but years ago I realized there was no valid reason to, except to be able to say I had one. I have not been a career woman, so it wasn't needed.
