Kathy's Story
Life
Hi to anyone who cares..
I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I have a beautiful daughter and four beautiful grandchildren and three beautiful step-grandaughters.
Alice Grace and Linda Escalante (Arellano) and I are now communicating and sharing our life stories from the past 30 years.
I'm currently working in my Graduate Degree in Education/Curriculum -Adult Education/at the University of Phoenix and am graduating May 2008.
As the Senior Class Vice President of the Class of 1968 I remember our class had a lot of spirit. I haven't changed...just like back then I saw one race of people on this planet....the human race. There wasn't any percentages in being like that back then...but now it looks like humans have evolved. But it seems no one still hasn't got anything to say. Then there are people like me (remember I was "Miss Mouth of 1968" of the Girls Athletic Association [GAA]) who always had something to say.
Here's a time-line of what happened after graduation:
1. I did not marry Philip Banks
2. Moved to Riverside and Married Frank Valadez (my daughter's father).
3. Attended San Bernardino Valley College (Joined domestic branch of Peace Corp for 2 years and ran a remedial reading program in San Bernardino (1972-74)
4. Became a photo journalist and later journalist for alternative press community development magazines/newspapers (1970)
5. From 1970 until 1981 was a community activist for Civil Rights; was founding member of grass roots Gang Diversion Organization (Los Padrinos of Southern California); 1978 received TELACU(The East Los
Angeles Community Union) Women's Achievement Award; Graduated from San Bernardino Valley College with AA in Spanish and Photography; 1978 Graduated from Redlands University w/BA in Bilingual Journalism/Community Development.
6. Divorced/Remarried 1981--Lived 4 years in Wiesbaden, WGermany (Editor Wiesbaden Post Military Newspaper)
7. Remarried in 1987 after return to California
8. My sister Maureen Bixl...Expand for more
er passed away in 1987 and my mother in 1992, my father in 2004.
9. Moved to Phoenix in 1994 remarried to Larry Harris (the love of my life) and now ride a 1949 Panhead Harley
10. Have an eye disorder that causes cornea problems and because I don't go to doctors (AND waited to go) my cornea perforated and my retina came out my pupil so they took out my left eye -almost lost right eye and due to corneal scar I'm legally blind (but I'm blessed to see good enough)
11. Will finish Graduate Degree July 2008 and will probably be an Online college instructor Adult ED.
There it is...life after Perris. Oh, I made a vacation in 1986 to Morocco North Africa and it was a "rush."
I'm a published poet and a member of the International Poetry Society (Gayle Fields and I used to swap poems in History at Perris Junior High....remember Mr. Chicazola?)
I am quickly running out of characters so will end this soon.
Oh this will remind you about me being me...I have 11 tatoos....my first and only colored one I got for my 50th birthday...also saw zz Top/Leonard Skinnard and went up in a Hot Air Balloon. Awesome.
Famous People I've met that I liked:
Cesar Chavez (a truly honorable human being)
Dennis Banks (remember Wounded Knee)
Wes Montgomery (great Jazz Musician)
Anthony Quinn(very handsome)
Luis Valdez (Wrote/directed Zoot Suit)
My mottos:
"I prefer honor to honors." - Noailles AND
"God doesn't see flags or
patriotism - only compassion,
mercy, forgiveness, unity and
and harmony." Carlos Santana
I'd love to hear from any of the Class of 64-68
Later - Gator.
**If you are reading this --and I can't remember which one it was- Roland or Nolan Mayo...one of you put in my year book "keep the faith" ...just want you to know THAT HAS BEEN ONE OF MY MOTTOS FOR LIFE.
Peace to every alumni at Good Old Perris High.
I see people reading this that I don't remember. If you were in my class let me know.
Como se dice en la calle: "I te watcho gacho."
