Kay's Story

Life After graduation I went to work at Duncan Equipment Company in B'ham. In 1975 I started working at Parisian Downtown, in the spring of 1976 I moved to Huntsville for 3 months to help open the Parisian store there. Upon returning to B'ham I took a trip with a friend to Panama City and met my husband. We married in June of 1977 and I moved to Hueytown. I then worked for EBSCO until 1980 when our daughter Anna was born followed by our son Joel in 1981. I was a stay at home Mom until 1984 when I went to work at a local grocery store. Shortly after that I was made an assistant manager and worked there for 17 years. During that time I made a lot of friends on this side of town. It was my pleasure to get to know the racing families of the Allisons, Farmers & Bonnetts. The years we lost Davey, Clifford & Neal were some of the worst times. Funny thing was I had no idea what "racing" was. Davey told me one day he had won rookie of the year and I asked him to tell me just exactly what he did! Davey sent me to my 1st race and taught me about the sport. For about 20 years I was at Talladega twice a year. We are still race fans & go sometime but usually watch it on TV. Both of my children were in the band at Hueytown. Our daughter was selected as drum major when she was a freshman. She was the 1st 3 yr drum major at Hueytown. When she graduated our son tried out and he was drum major for two years until he graduated. My husb...Expand for more
and & I were very involved in the band. My husband, David, was vice-president of the band boosters & I was in charge of the home concession stand. We worked a lot of events like City Stages, BIR, Brunos golf tournament and anything to raise money for the band. After my kids graduated I had had enough of the grocery business and went to work for 1st American Bank. In 2005 our son & his wife made us grandparents of a beautiful baby girl, Jillian. Shortly after her birth we found out that our daughter & her husband were expecting twins!! They were born in August of 2006, Seth & Katy (guess who she is named for). I moved my mother (87) in with me while my dad recovered from various illnesses in a nursing home. After the twins were born I left the bank, moved my dad (82) in with us. I now keep my mom & dad 24/7 and keep the twins 4 days a week. I love being a stay at home grandma and watching my parents with the twins. The babies give them a purpose for living because I could not do what I do without their help. I love to travel and spend time with my family. Two of the girls that worked for me at Food Giant have become like daughters to me. One has a 13 year old son who was my 1st "grandchild" and the other is expecting my 4th "grandchild" in Feb. 2008. Right now my life is good even with my busy schedule. In 2006 my husband and I celebrated 30 years together and some of you thought I would never even get married!!
