Kay's Story

Life I am married to Ray McDowell and we live in West Texas, Odessa to be exact. It is about 20 miles from Midland in the middle of oil and gas country. This region is called the Permian Basin and millions of years ago it was the Permian Sea, now it is just dessert. We are In the process of retiring and looking forward to being able to travel and visit children and family. Our favorite place to go is Colorado where we trout fish and also Cotter Arkansas on the White River. We are spending most of the summer in South Fork Colorado where the temperature is in the 70's or lower most of the time. We see a lot of Texans there getting away from the heat. We have six wonderful children; Jeff (Carol) Whitley, James (Renea) McDowell, Steve (Paula) Whitley, Bobby (Melinda) McDowell, Susan Whitley, Kim (Vince) Hawkins. These children have given us 13 grandchildren (1 deceased) and 2 precious great grandchildren. And of course our Wheaten Terrier named Mae. That's right; Ray, Kay & Mae Life is great and I enjoy seeing old friends...Expand for more
at the GHS reunions. Also would love to hear from old friends. ROLL TIDE!! UPDATE AS OF 3/7/3018 2017 was finally the year that we retired, December 26 we headed to South Texas with some RV friends. The idea was to get away from the crazy cold weather in Texas and head for warmer weather in South Texas. Just so happens that they were having a crazy winter there too so we had a large dose of cold, wet and wind. When it was too bad to get out and roam around on the beach we went to the movies. We had a great time! So now it’s Southfork Colorado in the summer and South Texas in the winter. Things have been a little hectic since we returned home. Three grandchildren will be getting married; March, September, October. In the meantime I will be having my left knee replaced on April 16, and six weeks of rehab to get ready to head to Colorado, in October we will head to Gadsden to visit and then to South Caroline for one of the weddings. I don’t know how we ever had time to work. Life is good and I hope it is for you too. Kay
