Kay's Story
The summer of 1975
After school I worked at Cone Hospital as a Nurses Aid, as we were called then. Traveling all over the Carolinas trying to photograph everything. From the Outer Banks to the breath taken Grandfather Mountain views. All the way down to Charleston, a city unlike anyother. Please don't ask me which I love most. For me the Carolinas has in all.
1978 started off good I met Steve McPherson {He was a Page High School Man he was class of 1968} and married him. Two of his three daughters came to live with us at different times. 1981 I gave him a son, Wade. It was a wonderful 25 and 1/2 years, we traveled out west living in Colorada for a year. Always coming back to Summerfield, no other place on earth like it. The summer of 2003 Steve got sick, in Nov. found out he had cancer, Dec he was gone.
He gave me a special life & love. Always letting me be me. My money went into starting McPherson Genealogical Research. Wrote the books "People and Places of Stokesdale North Carolina" "Hutchins of Yankin County & Guilford County" & last "An Index of ALL Hutchins Perdue & Selfs of Guilford County NC" It was Marriage Birth Death Military ending in 1995 when I published it. Hutchins was the main sur name I did research on for myself. Going back to the first Hutchins in Jamestown Va. 1630. So all the English Colonies were not all English. He just came by way of England. Always proud of my Southern Scottish/Irish Roots, I'm a life member of the Triad Scottish Highland Games. Our games will be the first weekend in May 2 & 3 of 2007.
2004 I started seeing Danny Self and he was an Accock School Man, Dec of 2005 I married him. Yes, I did say Self, come to find out while doing my research hes great great great great grandfather Columbus Self is my great great great great grandfather. Only got to live with him for 6 months. My Mom started showing sign of Altizmers, being the only child I had to move back home. It put a real hardship on our marriage. But to date we are still together. He lives in his house in Brown Summit and I live in Greensboro with her. I always did say my life was stranger then fiction. I still have a camera on my desk, but other then that I stay at home.
Being at home so much I needed something to keep me busy so I started taken ...Expand for more
in more dogs and cats that needed someone to help find them a home. I have 6 dogs of my our. A Great Dane Katie, A Dane/Mastiff mix Gabby, Dane/Mastiff mix Josie, Dane/Mastiff mix Preacher Man { He is black with a White Cross on his chest} what else could I call him. Susie a Collie Mix is my oldest girl we have had her for 18 years. Still very healthy just staring to get a little white in the eyes. Then there is Megan a Pit/Lab mix. A cat named Stormie found him on a stormy night going down a storm drain on his back. He was only 1 week old, we want talk about all I had to do for him. He did feed from a bottle but eye droper first. I have 4 parrots, Jo Jo, Molly & Polly, and Jamie. Molly is my bar room momma mouth. Dont know where she gets it. LOL Molly and Polly are Red Belly Parrots Sisters. Like night and day. Molly says Shut Up and Polly is so sweet she will say Be Quite.
So I guess you can see I'm busy busy busy still just in another way.
Went from being a Private Investigator to being a caregiver. Its the hardest job I have ever had. All the animals really do seem to help. We both love them so......she just can't remember all their names. Plus we garden, our flower gardens here in Greensboro and in Summerfield are Victorian Plants. Plants that have been here for 100-150 years. Some even older....we collect them and share the extras with others. Never a charge and never a thank you to say Thank You was bad luck and the plant would die. The old ways. I always did say I was born a 100 year to late......
Well that is about it, I guess next time someone ask me to write my story they well think twice. Can't believe I have 16112 characters remaining. But I will end it here.
Update:
June 14th 2008 I lost Momma her heart just gave out. I guess when she was unable to work she just lost her will to live. Jan. 21, 2010 Danny and I decided to make our homes one. We live in my family home, my son is still living with me. Still going through boxes, who ever said WOMEN have to much. Can a man ever have to many tools. LOL guess not. It just hit me today added up on my fingers lol 35 years since we were seniors. Thats really hard to believe. I really dont feel that old.
