Kay Mykles:  

Life After graduating from Lincoln, I went to San Joaquin Delta College and got my AA in 6/73. I worked at Mister Steak during this time and that summer went to Austria for 6 weeks, living with a family near Salzburg. I then transferred to UCSB in 9/73. I took a quarter off to return to Austria in winter and did some skiing in Austria and Switzerland, and attended school with my Austrian "sister." I returned to UCSB, fell in love and married without graduating in August 1975. I put him through law school at UCLA working for Occidental Life. After graduation, he got a job in Oxnard. I finished my last quarter at UCSB with a BA in math in 12/78. I got a job as a Claims Adjuster with the State Comp Insurance Fund (in Ventura) in 1/79. Although my first husband and I divorced in 1982, we keep in touch (he's a Judge in the Ventura County Superior Court) and I still consider him a good friend. I met a wonderful man in guitar class and Bob and I married in March 1985. We actually played professionally for several years (Bob on guitar and me on keyboards). We played with a band called Tradewind for 5 years, and then as a duo for 5 more before retiring. Bob is self-employed doing accounting for small businesses. I returned to school and got my MA in Counseling from CSUN in 12/88. I left State Fund in 6/87 to pursue a career with VocAid as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. I started my own counseling business in 7/99. With the demise of voc rehab on the horizon, I was offered a job as the Placement Director with Ventura Adult Education's Career Technical Education program. I shut down my business and took this job in 5/02. It was truly the best career move of my life.
