Kay's Story
Life
After graduation I stayed in the Pasadena area for several years then moved to Deer Park where I lived for 17 years. While in the area, I had 2 wonderful daughters who grew up and moved out on their own. One is still single and lives in Boca Raton, Florida and the other is married with 2 boys of her own and lives in Auburn, Georgia. I remarried and moved to the piney woods of East Texas in 1994 to a small rural community called Kennard. (Talk about small--population sign shows 314. And that probably includes all of the cows, horses, goats, and pigs in the area too !!) Quite a culture shock for a city girl. I live on 100 acres and our closest neighbor is about 1 mile away and the nearest Walmart and grocery store is 15 miles away !! My husband and I raise a breed of cattle called Limousin which we sell to 4-H and FFA kids to show for competition. I also work for East Texas Medical Center EMS as an EMT-Intermediate. Workplace
I have always worked in the medical field. While in Pasadena and Deer Park, I worked for a dental lab, then a physician that specialized in emergency medicine and then moved on to working in a very large OB/Gyn practice doing all secretarial duties along with assisting with patient care. I worked there for almost 13 years. At the same time, I also worked part time in Pasadena for an after hours emergency pediatric center while going back to school for EMS training. After moving to East Texas I "retired" for about 1 year then couldn't take all the peace & quiet so I began working for East Texas Medical Center EMS as an EMT-Intermediate. This is one of the largest EMS companies in Texas. They have recently aquired the 911 service in Pasadena. I work out of a station in Crockett which is about 15 miles from me. Most of the people that I work with are the same age as my kids!! Really makes one feel OLD.
