Kayleen's Story
Life
I graduated in 1996 from Bemidji, MN, attended NDSU from 1996 to 2003, joined the military in 1998 until 2005, Got married in May 2004, deployed June 2004 to November 2005 with my husband. Home and working now.
I am married to a wonderful guy who is skilled in construction and all the work that goes with that. He currently works for All Star Insulation doing the Spray foam insulation. He has an 11 year old daughter from a former marriage who we see every other weekend.
At this point we have no other children. We have 2 dogs (German Shorthaired Pointers), 4 cats, and 1 hamster. Currently we are living in Sauk Rapids, MN just outside of St Cloud. We are planning a trip to San Francisco soon, so we can have some type of honeymoon. It's only been 2 1/2 years coming. Iraq was the wrong beach to go to!
School
I graduated from Bemidji in 1996 and went on to college at NDSU. I graduated with a B.S. in Animal and Range Science, emphasis on Business/Production, minors in Corporate Agribusiness and Accounting. Workplace
I am currently working at the Benton County Sheriff's Office in Foley, MN. I work as a Records Technician doing transcription, warrant entries, and all the other records checks and paperwork that goes with an office.
Military
I joined the National Guard in May of 1998 and spent time with the Crookston Infantry Unit and then finished my time with a St Cloud Transportation unit. My unit was activated in June of 2004 and sent out to New Jersey to train with the New York/New Jersey National Guard to be part of a platoon out there. We were then sent to Tikrit, Iraq for 10 months. Our train up in New Jersey was for 8 months, and then we spent 10 months in Tikrit, Iraq at FOB Speicher. So I am now done with the military. I put in 8 years and have no desire to do more. My husband and I both came back from Iraq with several disability issues from wearing the body armor that was required. I have a 40% disability rating for my body, however I am able to work and hold down a normal job, I just have pain in my neck, back, and hips almost everyday.
