Keith's Story
My life has taken many turns in my education and my career!
I attended both Florida Institute of Technology, in Melbourne, Florida from the fall of 1969 through 1971and IUPUI, earning my Purdue BS in Chemistry in 1976.
After graduation I first worked for Oral Health Research Institute at IU School of Dentistry. While working in Dental Research was professionally rewarding, it was not financially rewarding.
I earned a second Purdue degree, a BS in Engineering, while working in dental research.
Upon graduation in May 1984 I went to work for Naval Avionics Center on East 21st St in Indianapolis. During my 12 years with Naval Avionics/Naval Air Warfare Center, I advanced from design engineer to project engineer (under numerous titles) to program manager. The Navy activity here in Indy was closed as part of a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) in January 1997 and privatized as a part of Hughes Aircraft. Hughes was sold to Raytheon in late 1997, and I left in the summer of 1998.

other government engineering position with the Navy at Space and Naval Warfare Systems (SPAWAR) in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1999.
In 2001 I moved to Raytheon in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
Next I worked as a contractor for a small firm at Crane Naval Depot in SW Indiana (a 175 mile per day commute from home in Indy).
Following the long commute, I worked a contract position with Eli Lilly as a Process Engineer doing failure analysis of pharmaceutical delivery systems.
I moved back to military avionics work as an Engineering Project Manager with Smiths Aerospace in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2004. In 2007, Smiths was acquired by GE Aviation, resulting in organizational change and a downsizing move last summer. I have been working as a systems engineer with DRS in Dayton, Ohio this year.
My wife, Kimberly Anderson (class of 1971), and I have six children, and four grandchildren. We have been married for 31 years this year. Our younger son, Kristopher, will be a senior at Tech this fall.
