Kellie's Story
Hello! This east coast Southern girl is now on the west coast. I enjoy writing, traveling, cooking, photography, golf, fishing, and living out here with my family. I do miss my 'roots' in Georgia. Hope to get back in touch with all my classmates.
School
It all began at a Methodist kindergarten in Doraville, Georgia...then onto Wesley Chapel Elementary and Chapel Hill Elementary schools in Decatur, Georgia. Then came Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur. After I finished 9th grade, my family moved to Sanford, Florida, and I became the first "female midship-person" enrolled at Sanford Naval Academy. Graduated, then four years at the University of Central Florida where I earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a commission into the U.S. Air Force.
College
I graduated from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, with a bachelor's degree in Journalism, minor in Aerospace Studies, in 1980. Journalism is a fascinating field, but the out-of-class experiences were the most interesting for me. Nights processing pic...Expand for more
tures in the photo darkroom, acting small parts in plays, writing for the campus paper, being a DJ at the radio station, a little sister for a fraternity, sharing a dorm room with Miss Greek Woman of the Year, being involved in Air Force ROTC... I guess I should have studied harder, but...much of those four years, I'd do again in a heartbeat!
Workplace
I have over 25 years experience in public relations, marketing, writing/editing, and management. I will soon be working in federal government as a public affairs specialist.
Military
After enrolling in the ROTC program and graduating from the University of Central Florida, I served 12 years in U.S. Air Force as an executive support officer and public affairs officer. Although I chose to leave the military after the Gulf War, serving was a great experience in my life. My assignments included: Loring AFB Maine; The Pentagon; Griffiss AFB New York; and Robins AFB Georgia. My favorite part of being in the Air Force? The camaraderie. There is nothing like it on the "outside"!
