Kelly's Story

Life (update 6/24/06) Hello to Bay and Harney alumni - here's a quick sketch for any who visit here - I've been back in the Vancouver area for the past three years, piecing together an income from several of the campuses in Portland / Vancouver. I have recently connected with a tenure-track position at a very nice community college in northern New Jersey, and will be leaving shortly (August '06). The rest of the story remains the same, with minor addition: I have completed a manuscript on prize fighers from the "golen age" of about 1890 - 1910, and hope to obtain an agent or a publisher before long. The prior history remains as follows: Following Bay graduation in '69 I went to Clark, then to UW (BA Philosophy and Psych; MA Phil), and after teaching for several years around Portland and Vancouver, did a Ph. D. in philosophy at the Claremont Graduate School in California with emphasis in philosophy of religion. Away...Expand for more
from the academic scene, I took part in several amateur and one "tough man" boxing contest, getting a few peices of hardware for the mantle, and until a few years ago was working out regularly at a local (SLC) boxing gym in spare hours. I now swim or hike regularly to stay in shape, and was certified in scuba a few years back. Over the years, I have taught English and philosophy in China, Russia, and the Slovak Rep., and was a visiting fellow in '98 at the University of Wales (Lampeter). My then-wife Maria and I (married in '95) were blessed by arrival of son Chace McGwire, a gorgeous and good-natured little fellow, in 2001. In recent years I have shifted emphasis from teaching to writing, and have now published four books on religion, moral philosophy, and metaphysics, and one on heavyweight champion (1899 - 1905) James J. Jeffries. I still love the NW as nowhere else, and hope to settle here one day again. Very best to all, Kelly

I took this shot of Mama in our back yard around the time we graduated from Bay. A nice shot, though nicer if I had all of her at the bottom ! Happy birthday, Ethel Marie, 110 today.
This one my son and I found a couple of months ago in a storage shed - long lost, I had feared, with many others in two albums that I had not seen in more than a decade. On the back is a note identifying this as my first d
