Kelly's Story
Life
After high school I left home to attend Kansas University. I graduated in 1984 with BS in education after spending 2 years first in computer science. I married Richard Hinton after high school, but was divorced several years later.I began teaching in 1985 at a boys juvenile facility. After several years there, I changed schools and began teaching at our old school, Ruskin High School. I only taught there for 4 years before the other President Bush caused schools to suffer budget cuts. I was laid off and returned to McCune, the boys juvenile facility. When the Grandview School district was talking of opening an alternative school, I applied there, and have been there every since. During this time I returned to school to get my Masters in Education at Avila University. This is my 11th year in Grandview and my 20th year teaching. Junior at Grandview High and Britny is a Freshman at Grandview High. Both are very active in sports. Brandon is in National Honor Society and is intending on going to college for architectural engineering. Britny wants to be a teacher. After 20 years in the business I still love what I do, so it thrills me that she wants to follow in my footsteps. My husband is a K-state Graduate which cause some conflicts since I am a Jayhawk, but we managed. He graduated from Parkhill High School. When he finished playing football his senior year in college he signed with the Chiefs. He played there for 3 years, but an injury ended his career. He has been with MGE for 20 years, and has been coaching football at Avila University for 5 years. We have been married for 18 years, and live in the house I was raised in, so if anyone is trying to find me, I am back in the house I lived in during school. I missed the 25 year reunion. I didn't know about it until it was over. Hope to reconnect with some of you and see how you are doing.
