Carolyn's Story

Life Arlington Heights friends of Kelly Rogers who might see this -- I am his wife, would be happy to connect with anyone who was a friend of his. Would be nice to hear some stories to pass on to our kids. ~C **** Doing this just for a few months for grins to see if anything happens. Probably not, but you never know. Never cared much for high school, and was much happier once I left it, but I do have some fond memories of a few times here and there, a few people here and there, a few teachers who left more of an impression on me than maybe they can ever imagine. Married for 16 years, now widowed after my husband lost his battle with heart problems a year and a half ago. His name was Kelly Rogers and he graduated from Arlington Heights in 1982. Great guy but cursed with a not-so-great heart. We had fun, a lifetime of it in too short of a time together. Our oldest daughter is pursuing medical school in the hopes of helping others like her dad was helped. Son just likes to play guitar but plays beautifully. So I'm single, and now that some time has passed, I am absolutely loving it. I've done some interesting things this past year, with many more things to accomplish. I work for an engineering firm connected to BNSF Rwy, and have been working on the railroad so to speak for almost ten years now. Travel is a huge love of mine -- soon I'll be going to Germany for awhile to visit a very close friend of mine there, so I'm taking German lessons. Lots of fun to learn a foreign language when one wants to! I'd love to find Rudy Comancho again, who I ran into in downtown Fort Worth soon after my husband died. I know where to find him, of course, so maybe I'll just hunt him up. Would also love to see where Tina Pennington is. She never knew it, but she made my senior year bearable. riendship behind. And, would love to find Roger Jeffries again. That would be wonderful. Not the shy girl I used to be anymore so if anyone ever wants to connect, email me. What the heck! Just know I'm a pretty liberal-minded, somewhat opinionated, lover-of-life with little tolerance for those who don't accept others as they are. Dealing with serious illness of a loved one really puts the important things in life into perspective. Carolyn School Pat McGee had to be the single most influential teacher I had in high school. His love for history and telling a story has stayed with me through today. I also loved the American Culture and Thought class junior year -- for the life of me I can't remember the teachers' names, but it was there the seeds for my future love of writing were sown. If I had to do it all again...hard question, as I was terribly shy in high school. As a result I experienced a different life during those years than many. No running around with friends, no boyfriend until I was a senior and then no one knew I had one. So nope, would not do it again. Homeschool would've been perfect for me, I think. Now, college was another story altogether. I loved it. There, I was in heaven, and had the fun I always longed to have. College Went to San Angelo State University for a year and a half, got tired of sheep country, moved to Arlington, attended UTA, had way too many hours in way too many things...was a Delta Zeta, and also a Kappa Alpha little sister (much more fun than being in a sorority). That's where I met my future husband. Workplace I work for Bartlett & West Engineers, the map and data department. We handle all the mapping for BNSF Rwy. I love trains! Am very lucky I love my job, love my co-workers, am very happy doing what I do. A strange job but I like that.
