Kelly's Story

That I've been happily married to the same woman for 32 years. We have six kids and four grandchildren. Being a parent has been the best thing I've done in life and having them return love to me is just an amazing thing, especially when you hear a two year old run to you yelling Grandpa. I was pretty close to Jody Villa and would like to see him again if he's still alive. I was with Villa in junior high and followed him to Manzano. He was my best friend for many years and I trusted his judgement in everything. He was an amazing man. A hundred and thirty miles an hour down I-40 from the canyon to the city on a motorcycle. Amazing I never was scared to do that but now it would terrify me. I think I slowed down going around the big curve. I also remember racing Mike Lutgen down North 14, me on the bike and him in his car. Made it all the way down just to skid on gravel at the I-40 stop sign, drop the bike on my leg and burn it. I have no idea. I can't even remember who that would have been. Good at everything I attempted and that I was good to everyone. I know I did a poor job at the latter some days and for those days I apologize. Just where I am exc...Expand for more
ept I would be an orthopedic surgeon instead of an anesthesiologist. I love medicine but I am too Type A for anesthesiology where I try to make surgery times as boring as possible. That I was actually smart enough to go to medical school and do well yet my kids are smarter than I am. My sixth grade teacher wrote on my report card that I would never be able to make it in science and I believed it until I went to China and learned how to speak Chinese and gained my educational self esteem back. Medical school was one of the funnest times of my life. Play baseball instead of basketball at Manzano. I was better at baseball than basketball. I thought I would be as tall as my brothers so I made the decision to play basketball but to this day I know I was much better at baseball and would have gone much further in baseball. I ran the Professor evaluation at BYU. Everyone hated me and our office. Left Albuquerque to live in Taiwan for two years, then to Provo Utah for school, then back to Albuquerque for medical school, then Salt Lake City for residency, then Phoenix to practice medicine for seven years then to Provo Utah where I've been for 15 years. Who knows why?
