Ken's Story
School
After going to GHS I went to the University of Florida. I started in Political Science with the idea of going into law--although I enjoyed it, I found myslef really taken with questions of political philosophy and later I took a strong interest in philosophy itself. This strong interest in philosophical questions eventually led me to change my major to philosophy. I was also inerested in religion and in understanding my faith. Having grown up Baptist, I went to the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville (luckily this was before the fundamentalists over-ran the school and fired many of teachers). At Southern I studied biblical languages, Greek and Hebrew, took an interest in New Testament and Church history. While in Louisville at the time I also started up in their Master's philosophy program and did a bit of student teaching. e ancient greek rhetoricians as well as Plato and Aristotle to see how they weighed in on these matters.
Since graduating I have taught in colleges and community colleges across the country. The schools include St. Catherines College (KY), Eastern Kentucky University, North Hennepin Community College (Minnesota), St. Catherines College (Minnesota), St. Olaf College, Kentucky Wesleyan College. I currently teach at Hoppkinsvile Community College my classes include world religions, bioethics (mostly for nursing students), ethics, intro to philosophy, logic. Currently I am trying to expand the curriculum of our school to add a philosophy course in military ethics and to add some biblical studies classes in religion.
College
I started College at the University of Florida thinking I would go into law. I became interested in political philosophy and then switched my major from political science to philosophy. I later ended up pursuing my PhD at Vanderbilt in Philosophy. I have taught at many colleges across the states and am currently teaching religion and philosophy at Hopkinsville Community College in Kentucky.
