Ken's Story

Born and raised in Miami, Florida , Ken Hodges began studying music at age 7. Inspired by one of his teachers, legendary percussionist Fred Wickstrom (The Jackie Gleason Show, Flipper TV Series) Kenny attended Brigham Young University where he studied percussion and obtained a BA in Music Education. In 1972 while a student at BYU, he purchased a music manuscript paper and music reproduction service and operated DAYMAN MUSIC company for the next twenty years. During this time (in 1976), he also became a first-call extra percussionist for the Utah Symphony. In 1977, Kenny was hired as the percussionist for THE OSMONDS, and worked with their organization full-time through 1982 . During that time, he performed for and appeared on ¿The Donny and Marie Show¿ and other TV shows, coordinated publishing and copyrighting of the Osmond music catalog, contracted musicians for recording sessions, and toured the world with the Osmonds as a member of their band. In 1982, Kenny began a career as a freelance percussionist, producer, and consultant, performing on hundreds of recording sessions for motion pictures, television, and albums. He also became the principal timpanist for the Ballet West orchestra, and has...Expand for more
recorded numerous albums as a percussionist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - including "Call of the Champions", the theme for the 2002 Winter Olympics, written and conducted by John Williams. From 1982 until 1991, Kenny produced a series of daily interview features for Broadcast International/Westwood One in the Country and Adult Contemporary radio formats. During this period, he produced over 2,700 individual shows, and interviewed most of the popular recording artists in these genres, including Garth Brooks, Amy Grant, Hall & Oates, John Denver, George Strait, Alan Jackson, and dozens of others. From 1985 until 1992, Kenny began developing recording artists for Shadow Mountain Music in Salt Lake City, and from 1992 until the fall of 2000, served as A&R Director. Currently, Kenny performs with The Utah Symphony, Ballet West, with national touring productions, and in the recording studios. He serves as the Vice President of The American Federation of Musicians, Local 104. In his own production studio, he produces audiobooks, commercials, and talk CDs, and masters albums for several record labels. Kenny lives in Salt Lake with his wife, and has five wonderful children from a previous marriage.
