Ken's Story

Life I can't believe that I've been out of Lake Central for over 20 years now!!! It seems like it was just yesterday that I drove to school for the first time. At 22, I moved to Knoxville, TN (following a woman... GRRRR) and got a job with a company as an entry level programmer. I worked for them for 5 years when I finally got tired of the politics and quit. Life was good and I was introduced to the world of tattoo's (heh heh heh). In '96 I left corporate America and started my own software company... lotsa' late nights, weekends, and small pay checks immediately followed. In '98 I realized that the stress of my business as well as a miserable marriage was the root cause of my daily drinking... so I got divorced and then got drunk!!! The divorce cleaned me out but I ended-up with the only things that mattered at the time... all of the Harley's, my company, and two dogs. In '99 I was in Memphis, TN playing pool with two Judges and woke-up the next morning married again. My new wife was a big improvement on the last but we were BROKE!!! We spent the remainder of the year picking-up the pieces of my shattered/messed-up life. In 2000, I had rebounded well from the divorce and was very happy (for the first time). I now had acquired 3 step-children and life has once again taken a huge turn... my mom never warned me that kids are a pain!!! :( Never the less, work is going better than ever, and I have a great marriage. As far as 'Life' goes, if I plan it right, my wife and I will die together and our Bank Account will be $0.10 overdrawn!!! Okay, it's now Nov 24,2007 and I managed to somehow miss the 20 year Reunion. Damn, what was I thinking? heh heh heh Well, seriously, I tried my best but it just wasn't in the cards for me I guess. While enroute to the Region, for the Reunion, my wife and I got hit by a car at 60 mph riding our newest Harley. Yea, that whole crashing thing sucks... it's WAAAAY over-rated... for trained professionals only! While everyone was having fun, my wife and I were in the Trama Unit at University of Tennesse...Expand for more
Medical Center in Knoxville. I spent 6 months on disability returned to work just a couple of weeks ago. Just as a mental note to anyone listening... disability SUCKS!!! I got a another new bike out of the deal but I'm not sure if it was worth it. I've been through surgery too many times and have way too much titanium hardware in my body now. I'm actually looking forward to everything healing so that I can get the scars tattoo'd... I'm going to have all the scars zippered... awesome, huh? I'm hoping that when this is all over I can just return to my plain 'ole life again... I'm tired of hurting though I'm NOT complaining... the pain meds aren't bad... though one should NOT mix the strong one's with alcohol as it tends to lead you into hallucinating. :) heh heh heh Other than this, I'm great... the wounds have healed... my head is still a little messed-up... I get confused easily and rarely know what day it is. It's all okay though, it makes life more interesting and every day presents more/new challenges for my wife and I. School I think I played football, didn't I? College These years are more of a blur than anything. I drank WAY TOO much and held a job too. I do recall getting my first Harley though and that's the best thing I can recall from that 4 year period. Yea, it's coming back... this was the era in which I met my first wife. What I would give to go back and change THAT!!! Workplace I own a computer software/programming company which has had its up's and down's over the past 7 years. The last 3 years have been consistantly good but it was questionable in the beginning. I love what I do for a living and when I retire, I'll finally have an opportunity to write those cool applications that I currently don't have time for. I spend most waking hours sitting in front of my box (like right now). My idea of vacationing is loading the laptop's (and one Server) into the RV and heading to Myrtle Beach for a week so that I can write code while listening to the ocean. I'm going to work until I die... I wouldn't have it any other way.
