Ken's Story

After beginning my junior year of college at Cal State LA in 1966, realizing I had to pick a major and still had not, I got the brilliant idea while sitting in a statistics class bored beyond belief that I should join the Army. Within a month I was in, and they taught me Gregg shorthand after basic training in beautiful Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Our entire class was on orders to Vietnam, but at the last minute I got a change of orders to go to Heidelberg, Germany instead where I worked for a Colonel in an office for two years, somehow never getting the dreaded orders for 'Nam. Upon release in 1969 I restarted my college career at Cal State Long Beach and again confronted the pick-a-major dilemma, so after a semester I went to a court reporting school in Long Beach and passed the state test in 1972 and began working in Monter...Expand for more
ey as a court reporter, doing both court and depositions. I subsequently worked in Orange County, Santa Barbara and Ventura where I met my wife who is also a reporter. We moved to Arroyo Grande, which is close to San Luis Obispo, in 1984, and opened a deposition business with one client. The business slowly grew and now we work part-time mostly on administration and let the younger reporters do the work! We were blessed with twin boys, Austin and Jackson, in 1997. They are now driving (us crazy -- just kidding!) and will begin their junior year this fall at New Tech High School in nearby Nipomo, where they are on the water polo and basketball teams respectively.. We are all relatively healthy and enjoying the fruits of our labor, living in the house we built in 1990, and wondering how we got so old. Anybody know?
