Kenneth's Story

Okay! Here goes. If I get too boring, just cut me off...it won't hurt my feelings(:>)But, there will be a test the night of the reunion, just kidding. I'm getting so old I'm not sure that" I" could answer all of my questions correctly.(:>) LOL Anyway.....First things first. I was born......I know...I know....you're probably thinking........NO S----, Kenny!! I was born...... in Cincinnati; is that better........Ohhhhh Sorry, You didn't want my WHOLE story...okay let's see.....okay....When I was a year old.....my family moved to Calif........Nope! That's to far back too....you already knew that I was in California.....I mean, like I went to Burroughs LOL (:>) Anyway....Okay.....let's see.....I started Kindergarten at Viewig School at China Lake when I was 5 years old and turned 6 a month later (you know....October 16 (By the way my SIGN is LIBRA...ya' know.....the Love Sign) Well, let's see......my next undertaking was St. Ann Catholic School.Shhhhhhhhh!! Don't say that too loud...some people might say I'm cussing. Anyway, during that period of formal education..I grew from age 6 to 13. From there I jumped right into the Famous Burroughs. School was a totally new experience in all parts of my life. I loved it. Of course you have to admit......our school had the most beautiful girls in the state of California and maybe even farther! ! ! ! It was really hard to concentrate in class when you're surrounded by such beauty! ! ! Well, Yeah Man, I couldn't wait 'til I got my first car. You know I would venture to guess that a car was number 1 in importance to a guy back in those days. It was to me......mine was a light green tudor '53 Ford, 239 Cubic Inch Flathead V8 engine with a 3-speed and dual exhaust that purred like a kitten. The other guys could probably run circles around me but that's okay.....it was still my baby. Of course, if I could have mustered up the nerve (I was very shy) to ask one of those lovelies out, then, she, of course would become number 1 and my car would fall to number 2.......but only then would it fall to number 2. Smile..... I graduated even with all those beauties spinning my head around. From that point I, goofed around a lot and worked to keep my car lookin' good and runnin' fine. Then I met a girl who knocked me off my feet. We dated for 4 years, during which time I went into the Air Force, got married, had our first child, exited the service, and went to work at China Lake. We, subsequently, had 3 more children (2 boys and a baby girl that matched my wife's beauty). I put in some college time a CCCC. Worked hard but came up short at 52 units. In addition to all that, I played drums in 3 bands at different times; all 50s and 60s Country and Rock and Roll. It was extremely hard to go to work, tend to a family, attend college and play music with a b...Expand for more
and. I worked at China Lake and retired after 32 years. We moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 2005 and we have been here ever since. My wife, Elaine, has a ton of relatives here. I think about 99% of them live in or around Louisville. All of my relatives live in or around Cincinnati. Two of our children came with us and the other two remained in Ridgecrest. WOW! ! That was a mouth full!! Anyway, I guess that's about it. Whoops! I still have a little more...so....Go get a beer(just kidding...a coke or pepsi or water) and have a seat. Baseball has always been my favorite sport (except for Burroughs Football - YEAH TEAM ! !). I played in the China Lake leagues from the time I was 8 until the ripe old age of 17. I just loved it! Mr. John Machowsky (Mike's Dad - May They Both Rest In Peace) bought me (with points) for his team each year. I had the greatest respect for him. He was like a second dad to me. He let me make my decisions on how I would "pitch" my game and gave me a lot of good advice. I never let him down and worked my hardest for him. When my pitching game was a bit off and I struggled through an inning, he never gave me a bad time just more confidence. I think about him to this very day. With Mr. M's backing and help I ended my career with 19 wins and 9 losses at age 17. Every year, Mr. Machowsky put together a great team and we always battled for 1st or 2nd place in the standings. After the last game I pitched in Colt League (age 17), Mr. Machowsky told me that scouts from the L.A. Dodgers and the New York Yankees had been at the game watching me....."so stay by your phone for the next week, you may just get a call", he had a serious expression on his face as he told me. Well, I never got that call but someone else in the league did...Congrats! Anyway....I had a blast playing those years of baseball...couldn't have been better!!! I know it's a bit late for giving thanks but..... Thanks Mike Machowsky for the great plays you made at 2nd base and the base hits at the right time.. Thanks to Herbie Pinto (RIP) for being a excellent starting pitcher and your excellent relief pitching skills when I faltered. Thanks to Albert Hyles for catching those in-the-dirt fast balls and in-the-dirt "Junk" that I pitched to him. He did a great job. I was amazed that he could hit a ball as hard and far as he could. My greatest hitting accomplishment was my one and only homerun during my entire career.... Thanks to the rest of the team for your base hits and great plays to insure a win for our team. ....and last but not least...... Thanks Mr. Machowsky for being there for all of us. We couldn't have done it without you! ...to quote Ringo Starr, "PEACE AND LOVE!" P.S. Thanks to you, out there, for reading my Story ! Kenny
