Kenneth's Story

I am going to add a little at a time since it would take me a few hundred years to catch you all up the way I type. Well here goes, Graduated from South St Paul High school and 7 days later I was in MCRD San Diego California going through Marine Corps boot camp. Talk about the toughest 13 weeks of my life. I made through as one lean mean fighting machine. Then I was off to Millington, TN for Aviation school. Spent the next 9 weeks working on F4 phantoms and A4 Sky hawk. Graduated #2 in my class, sure as heck wanted to be #1 just was one marine a little bit smarter then me. After graduating I was able to come home for 10 days leave (Vacation). I then had to report to my first actual duty station at MCAS El Toro CA. I will be stationed with VMGR-352 till June of 1982. During that tour in CA my son Kenny was born back here in St Paul on June 13, 1979. Then I was married on August 17th of that same year. Just less than 2 years later my next son was born April 6, 1981 and his name is Tim. I was discharge and came home to live which was very short I might say. I was back in the Marine Corps by Oct 1982 and going to VMGR-252 at Cherry Point North Carolina. While stationed at VMGR-252 I received my flight wings and became a First Mechanic on the KC-130 aircraft. I was part of a 7 man crew aboard a KC-130. After that I was flying to all parts of the world. My first tour in Okinawa came in July of 1983, spent 6 months on Okinawa before returning back home to VMGR-252 in January of 1984. In the next year that I was back home I really wasn't home. Was in Key west Florida, Yuma Arizona, Honduras and a few other places. Then in January 1985 I went back to Okinawa Japan for another 6 month tour with VMGR-152. Went to several countries like Korea, Philippines, Australia, Thailand and many other small Island in the south Pacific. After returning back to Cherry Point NC I was only there about 1 and a Half years and then back to Okinawa. This though I was with my family. We spent 5 years on Okinawa and that is where we adopted our daughter Brittany. She was very small and mal-nutritioned, but a bundle of joy for the Wolske family. While stationed on Okinawa we as a family got to do more sight seeing and viewing some of the customs and festivals that go on through out the year. Everything was very colorful and fun to see. The boys were in to baseball and soccer, which I got the chance to coach both for a few years. Sure didn't know much about soccer so I hit the books and talked to a few Japanese exchange student we had and I was able to learn a lot about soccer. It was so much fun teaching and learning by coaching young kids. Parents now on th...Expand for more
e other hand were the major problem Hahaha. Then it came time to leave it was sad and then again exciting since we hadn't been back to the states in over 5 years. This is going to be a shock. We arrived back to Minnesota in January and the reported to Cherry Point NC again. This time we bought a house just off base about 1 mile. It was lovely 3 bedroom 2 bath rambler with a den. North Carolina is not known for having garages so that took some getting use to. The boys were growing up fast and really becoming a handful. there was time I wasn't home much so it sure did put a lot of stress on the wife. Some of the deployments were 3 months and some where longer depending on where I was at. I spent 4 almost 5 months at one time in Africa in support of Somalia. At the end of our tour the United Nations picked us up and we were now flying relief supplies in to Rawanda and Ziare. Our crew had the night mission so I wasn't able to see much except for the thousands of camp fires. I did spend 1 more tour in Okinawa for a year and that sure was a long time to be away from your family. Kids were pretty much driving their mother crazy during that tour. Upon returning back to Cherry Point NC I had 28 months to go till I retired. I retired on 31 October 1998 and the we returned back to Minnesota and I started to work for Sun Country Airlines. Sun Country sure was a great company to work for. Small and every one knew your name. I had put 3 years in at Sun Country when September 11 2001 came along and the I was laid off October 1. We had closed on our house just a few days earlier. Now there is some stress. Well I sure didn't like being unemployed so by February a was going through truck driving school with Swift Transportation. I drove truck over the road for about 4 years and then I was able to get a local job driving for the same company. Now I have moved up to the academy and training new drivers to get their CDL's . So that brings me up to now. I have a beautiful girl friend 5 wonderful kids. 3 from my marriage and my girl friend has 2. Plus now I am a grandfather of 1 grand daughter. Well that should just about do it for now. 27 Aug 2009 Still driving truck, but now I am looking into purchasing a new truck. I will find out more info on this next week. My girl friend and I are doing really well. We are looking forward to vacationing in Greece next spring. My grand daughter is just a movin and a groovin. At just over 2 years old she is a handful to chase after. 25 Sept 2009 Decided to buy a used truck instead, keeping the payments lower and with less time to pay it off. I bought a '04 Columbia, Freight Liner. Will be hitting the road soon.
