Kenneth's Story
Well, in 2016 we bought a small farm (70 acres) near Orange, VA. It had an older abandoned home part of which was built in 1792 by one of the founders of Orange County and expanded in 1850. We gutted the house, expanded the footprint and modernized the plumbing, electric, hvac etc.. Most of the floors were salvaged and refinished. This was a three year project. During this project we had a full apartment built in the barn and we stayed there on weekends. Eventually we moved in on October 1, 2020. There are still many projects underway. We have a very old corn crib to be restored as well as a building which was used as a summer kitchen and servants quarters. Many buildings were torn down years ago. The previous owner says he has many old pictures and promised to bring them by the next time he is in the area. Hopefully he will be here in the Spring. This will be very helpful.

ar of Northern Aggression. They served throughout the war. We found several artifacts by accident ( glass, dinnerware, buttons ) when our pool was built. We plan to begin a more thorough search this Spring. The previous owner had never done any searching.
We also have a family graveyard but it is now unmarked. It seems that the grave markers were removed and never put back many years ago. This was evidently not uncommon practice to keep thieves and vandals away. That is another project we have undertaken and it looks as though we may have found the location. We will work on this in the Spring also with some local history buffs.
Just got the building permit for a new garage with a studio with plans to finish by May. I am planting wildlife food plots again this year as well as a large garden and the beginning of a lavender field.
This fall and winter we got pictures of a bear, turkeys, coyotes, fox and plenty of deer on trail cameras spread around the property. The bear was the most exciting.
