Kenney's Story

After reading David Skinner's great story about his accomplishments and interests after Two Rivers, I was hesitant to write mine. Dave was one of those people that you knew, due to his talent and personality, would do great....and he did. I've spent most of my adult life working in the environmental protection/regulatory field with the great State of Tennessee. After finishing college, I worked as a freshwater biologist. For fifteen years I fished for a living. What a great job ! For the last fifteen years of my state career I served as the Enforcement Coordinator with the Department of Environment and Conservation. In this capacity I worked to insure equitable enforcement of the environmental laws that serve to protect the state's land, air and water. I was NEVER bored ! I retired in 2006 and am working part-time under contract with the State. I married a Madison girl, Lynn Cunningham (Class of 1970) in 1981 after dating for a decade ! We met the Summer of '71 while working as counselors at the Easter Seal Camp on Old Hickory Lake. We have a 22 year-old son, Mac, who graduated from Tennessee Tech this Spring and is working as (what else) a biologist for the State. We also have a 20 year-old daughter, Claire, who is a Junior at MTSU majoring in a...Expand for more
ccounting. Both are really great kids that we have always been proud to say we brought into this world. I still enjoy playing guitar and play finger-style jazz. I'd like to say that I have refined my tastes if not my talents ! However I'm not above a little blue grass when the opportunity presents itself ! I enjoy fishing in the local creeks and have one of the best smallmouth bass creeks running through my place. I was one of the founders of Nashville's Cumberland Chapter of Trout Unlimited some twenty-five years ago and avidly pursued trout for a decade. For the last ten years I have been involved in competitive target shooting. I hope that through this venue some of my old friends will again make themselves appear. I'd love to hear from ya'll. I often think of friends from both Two Rivers and Stanford Elementary and wonder how they are. This last year I lost a couple of really close friends and I know that more are going to go as the years pass. Mel Turner's passing got me thinking that I wish that I could make more time to spend with old dear friends. I will promise to try to help do a 40 year reunion with the stipulation that I get more time to spend visiting rather than working as was the case at the 30 year reunion ! Let me hear from you!
