Kent's Story
I was born at an early age, but soon got over it.
After Mingus, I started college, but dropped out after a year to "experience life and see the world". After seeing a little bit of it, but not learning very much. I returned to college, graduating in Feb of '68 from NAU. I joined the Peace Corps from '68 -'70. While serving in Nepal, I met and married my wife (another Volunteer) in a charming Hindu ceremony involving beheading a chicken and squirting some blood on the god Ganesha. It seemed to have worked, as we were very happy for the next 36+ years. Returning to the States, I completed a Master's at NAU, spent a couple of additional years at the U of A, and, being broke, began teaching highschool social studies, just like my Dad. My wife, Christine, and I taught 3 years in Whiteriver, AZ, then after the birth of our first daughter Maya, moved to Douglas Wyomin...Expand for more
g for the next 10 years, where daughters Sara and Kate were born. We returned to AZ in 1987 and I have lived in Goodyear since then. After about 15 years in the travel business, I returned to teaching 5 years ago, at an alternative high School in Buckeye. After a six month illness, my wife passed away from cancer in October of 2006, I miss her very much. My plans are to retire in May of 2008 and go "see the world" again. Planning to backpack SE Asia, China, Nepal and India next year befor I get too old.
For those of you who remember my father, Merle Crawford who taught social studies and agriculture at Mingus and Cottonwood H.S.: He passed away in October of 2005 at age of 97. He was in pretty good health until the last month or so. My mother Joyce Crawford is in an assisted living facility in Tucson, near my brother. She will turn 90 at the end of May.
