Kerri's Story
Life
I moved to Florida in the middle of my senior year, went into the Navy in 1981 and stayed in the DC area. My husband and I left Maryland six years ago and came back to the Tampa area and we are so happy we did. We have a late-in-life daughter (8 years old) after 6 miscarriages. I am a personal trainer and trained with Miss Fitness Mid-Atlantic States after the birth of my daughter to get back in shape. It is true, the older you are, the harder it is to get yourself back together again. I raised my two stepchildren who are now adults since they were 9 and 12 years old. I currently teach seven classes a week in fitness too and love teaching again. I started working full time for the school year 2006-2007 and worked with the special ed kids in our middle school. ad no knowledge about anything going on in the world. History was my favorite and they always joked with me and asked me if I had dated King Tut (I never hid my age from them). This year I am subbing as they have put a freeze on all of the teaching positions in my county. I am starting a job for the next two weeks at my old high school (Hudson) in ISS. I put in for this position permanently and when the freeze lifts, it is probably mine. I have experience working with "problem kids" and I believe this is the path that God has chosen for me to follow. I am very active in the Republican Party as I want the country to stay a democracy instead of a socialist country and enjoyed all the politics of DC. The small town politics of our small town are actually enjoyable for us and very different from what we left behind. My husband is active in the local Rotary Club and is the Treasurer for the Board of Realtors. It is amazing how you run into the same people at all the functions. He is also active in the Chamber of Commerce and Sertoma. We are very active in our church which is also my daughter's school. So we have actually settled into suburbia and I have realized that I have become my mother.
