Kerry's Story

Wow where do I begin. My wife of thirty five years tells me that living with me has been one adventure after another. As a lot of you know I worked out a lot in high school and a couple years beyond. I got married when I was twenty and during the first part of my marriage my dreams was to enter and win a Mr. America contest. I worked out so incredibly hard and at one point with a friend and workout partner, had put in a gym in the Fairway Park Area, that later became Jardine Health Club. During a workout I ripped a pectoral muscle that put an end to the dream, so I had to go to work. ( work is so over rated) For 17 years I spent working in the dry cleaning business and had built it to a point where we were doing cleaning for 15 stores. until one day I got fed up with it, fed up with living in Hayward, wanted a change of scenery so we sold the business and our home and moved to the State of Washington. I started a construction company and actually worked on some pretty good size projects. When working in construction was a hobby it was fun. A lot of the time that I had been in the dry cleaning business I was buying old properties, fixing them and turning them over. Made a lot of money for Uncle Sam. When I started doing construction as a means to make a living, I hated it. In the mean time I was blessed with four of the most wonderful children. I have learned so much from each, and each of them have grown up and are doing well on th...Expand for more
eir own. Twenty years ago my wife and I were talking about taking in foster children. It took a lot of coaxing from her, to where I finally consented, went to the boring classes and ended up with my foster care license about six years ago. When we got two boys (both teenagers) it wasn't to bad. But when the state saw that we worked well with these young men, they started putting more young men into our home. As you know, the behaviors that you have to deal with can be a challenge, so after we got up to our sixth placement my wife came out to the job site and informed me that I had to make a decision whether to work with these young men full time and give up construction, or the other way around. I gave up construction and have been given a privilege to work with these children that had no hope. I will tell you it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, and I have never regretted the decision. We now have eight boys in our home. We have two that have aged out and have gone into the military. Life is good, and I feel very fortunate. God has continued to bless us. I hope all is well with all of you and that each of you has had a chance to live out your dream. I know that sometimes life throws us curves, but remember one thing. Not everyday is a mountaintop experience. All of us will have the valleys. It's in the valley's that we grow. And out of this growth is how our character is formed. Best wishes to all Kerry Bryant
