Kerry's Story
Wow, this is really weird. I went to a different high school every year from my frushman year on but think about those days from time to time and all the people I met and shared a year of my life with. Where have the years gone? We were all 15, 16 & 17 then and now we're all pushing 60. Did anyone ever think this far ahead? I was so used to moving to a new school every year that I never looked past the next term or semester. Leaving you guys and that great school was one of the hardest moves I can remember. It helped playing football every year which allowed me to meet people before the school year even started and helped me have a social life and the ability to reinvent myself every year. I finished my senior year in Springfield, Oregon (where The Simpson's creator got Springfield from), Eugene, Oregon's ugly little sister. It's where I grew up before we started bouncing around following my dad's job. It was very strange graduating with kids I'd gone to grade school with but would have like to have stayed almost every place we moved. Gresham High in Gresham, Oregon my freshman year, College Park High in Pleasant Hill, CA my Junior year and of course Springfield High to finish. My sophomore year at Vallejo High in Vallego, CA I could have doen without. Race riots and some really bad experiences made that the ugly exception.
Our family changed our name from BUZARD (or Buzzard as many of you called me) to BUNNARD after I finished high school. Our family name was originally Buzzard before my Dad and uncles dropped a z for all the good it did. It was great getting that behind me. What's in a name? A lot of hard feelings and fights for nothing, especailly tough when your the new kid every freakin' year.
Gaduated from U of O "GO DUCKS" and earned a B.S. degree in Journalism. I got married right out of college and am still with my wife Darla after 32 years. We raised two beautiful daughters who live in Portland, OR. One's in med school and the other is married and just finished her undergraduae degree. Poppa is so proud.
I've worked mostly in transportation after working for an adertising agency out of college and am currently self employed and have my own...Expand for more
logistics company here in the Seattle, WA area.
I also wrote a book, "Fish On A Bicycle...evolution of a bottom-feeder" about my spiritual awakening while researching my Native American heritage while I was going through my mid-life crises, a spiritual crises, in my mid-40's. It is about finding my own path based on my native connection to Spirit away from the dogma of orgainized religioin. Google my name if you're interested in checking it out. Kerry Bunnard. I'm also working on some other books that I hope to have published soon. Once you get the first one published its easier to get published again. I'm currently writing the screenplay of Fish collaborating with Blue Forge Productions who are helping me craft it for the screen.
I been involved in the film industry in Seattle and have been acting in some independent films, voice work and commercials. It started out as a hoby, took some classes and started going to auditions and have been doing quite a bit, I just finished a commercial for Little Creek Casino where I'm supposed to be on my second honeymoon. I got to make-out with an attractive 50 year old (spring chicken) for four days while pretending to gamble, golf and make woopie. It was a real hoot, but not sure how much my wife is going to like watching it. The pay was good and it was a lot of fun filming, so I hope I won't have to sleep on the couch for a month after it comes out.
I remember football and good friends mostly, especailly the girls :).
I can still see everyone's faces in my head but never got a yearbook for '71-'72 even though I paid for it and left my forwarding address. That is how I ended up on this site in the first place. I've always wanted to get a copy of that yearbook so then I'd have the names with the faces and would be more inclined to try to reach out a little more. I have been reticent about moving forward paying for access or trying to purchase a copy but hope to get over it and do so soon. You know how it is. Sometimes its just easier to do nothing.
If anyone wants to reach out to me I am on facebook under my current name. I hope to connect with some of you if you're interested. Life is short and getting shorter.
