Kevin's Story

Life Since I graduated from Southwest I went to Forest Park CC for two years and then to UM at Rolla majoring in electrical engineering. A semester before graduation I dropped out and joined the Navy. I just wasn't sure that being an engineer was what I wanted to be. So I joined the Navy to buy some time until I figured out who I was. While I was in uniform I completed my BS degree in electronic technology and an MS in Human Resources. After 20 years I finally figured out what I wanted to do when I grew up. My last tour of duty was as a branch head at Fleet Training Center Norfolk Virginia. I was in charge of nine courses one of which was the Fiber Optic Maintenence and Repair Course. I found that I was really good at it and developed a passion that few have. I became recognized as the Navy's subject matter expert in this field and was sought after by numerous companies when I retired. I joined a company called KITCO Fiber Optics as their senior instructor and lead curriculum designer. I wrote courses for the Navy, Northrup Grumman Newport News, Electric Boat division of General Dynamics and assisted on the Army's fiber co...Expand for more
urse. In addition, I teach all Navy personnel in fiber optic repair and many of the shipyard personnel who build our ships. I have been married twice and have six (yes 6) children. Two from my first marriage Joshua-20 and Jessica-19 (they are both in college now) and four living with us. Mary and I keep busy raising our children Kelly-17 (senior in HS), Danielle-10, Ashley-7 and Ryan-9 months. I am married to the most wonderful woman there is. She is more beautiful today than when we met and is a great wife and mother. Mary teaches seventh grade math and still manages to take care of all of us. We have a house full and there is never a dull moment. Disney World is our favorite vacation spot and we travel there every year. We currently reside in Chesapeake Virginia and probably will be for life. We love it here and for us this is home. I visit St. Louis two or three times a year as all of my family still resides there. I lost my mother October of 06 to cancer and I was at the Susan B Coleman walk for life this last June. My father still lives in south county and my two sisters and their families live close by.
