Kevin's Story

After High School, I hoped to be a Rock'n'Roll star. What I really did was spend lots of time dragging heavy equipment to dingy bars in bad parts of the Detroit area. I got into the sound engineering side and did that almost every night for 2 years. I also sold musical equipment and had a small recording studio. During this time I also began my love affair with computers. I met my first wife in 1984 and our first child was born in 1986. When she became pregnant with our second child in 1988 I had to get a 'real job'. I ended up with Blockbuster as a store manager. I did that for 10 years. Our third child was born in 1994. In 1998, I got a chance to get paid to play with computers for a living. I joined a small medical software company in Mt Clemens, and helped them through Y2K. Remember how scared some people were ? By late 1999, my marriage was ending, and I was ready to get out of the cold, damp, Michigan winters. I floated my resume and was immediately offered a job in Tempe, AZ at twice the money I was making in Michigan. I moved here in May 2000, and my 3 kids joined me in August. My oldest was none too happy with the heat, but the other 2 did fairly well. To fill time while waiting for my kids to arrive, I began playing Euchre on Yahoo. One night, a nice lady sat down as my partner, and we began to chat. Turns out she was from Battle Creek. Long story short, we began a long distance romance that culminated with our marriage in 2002. We now live in Anthem, a community about 20 miles north of Phoenix, with great desert views all around. Shannon is my oldest, she graduated from ASU this year with honors. Meghan is ...Expand for more
a free spirit and lives in Phoenix with her boyfriend. Sean is a Freshman in High School. He is an honor student and on the swim and dive teams. My wife, Marty, is truly the best friend a man could have, and is the absolute love of my life. Even after 8 years, we still can spend days at a time together 24/7 and not get bored with each other. She is the corporate Broker for Prudential Relocation Services. Her kids are grown live in Battle Creek. We try to get there at least once a year. I am an SAP consultant, currently working at Honeywell Aerospace. Our favorite pastimes are road trips in our 1966 Impala SS Convertible. We travel all over AZ in her, and have also been to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and twice to South Dakota for the conventions of the National Impala Association. There is nothing like driving down a 2 lane road, beautiful scenery all around, and not being closed in by your vehicle. We restored this vehicle ourselves, with help from Marty's son-in-law for the sheet metal work. Other than that, we learned how to do all the rest. I can be reached at kmbyrnes at cox.net UPDATE: In March of this 2009, Marty got ready to retire. We bought a repo house in Mesa, AZ, which is EAST of Phoenix. Lost the desert view but my commute is now 30 minutes instead of an hour and a half. The smaller house fits our needs better and the neighbors are a lot nicer ! Marty is enjoying retirement and recently became a great-grandmother. ( I'm too young for this !!) Had planned to go to the reunion, but the new house and lifestyle changes prevented that. We'll see what 35 brings. If you are ever in Phoenix, look us up.
