Kevin's Story

After high school I did a short stint at UCCS studying Electrical Engineering, but put school on hold for a while when I got married. We have been married for 27 years now, and have two beautiful and talented daughters (18 and 16). I finally earned my degree in 1990 with a BS in Computer Science from the University of Southern Colorado (now CSU in Pueblo). Work took us from Colorado to South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and finally to Arizona. I have primarily been working in the aerospace industry developing or managing software for spacecraft and launch vehicles, but did work with TV Guide Interactive for six years where I built electronic programming guides used to guile you into wasting more time watching television (which worked fabulously, my little contribution to the downfall of mankind). I currently work with Orbital Sciences Launch Systems Group in Chandler, Arizona where I manage the embedded software development group. Yes, I have to say it, I am a rocket scientist. I am also working towards a Masters degree in System Engineering from GWU. My better half works for US Airways. If you ever talk to Patience (the only one there) while making a reservation with US Airways, be sure to say hello. My oldest daughter is in her first year at ASU studying political science, and my youngest is in 11th grade looking to follow Dad into engineering, though she is way smarter than I was at her age. Outside of work, I like to get away from it all. Phoenix is crowded and unbearably HOT from May to October,...Expand for more
so every chance I get to go to cooler, less populated locations, I take it. I enjoy camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking with my family. I also volunteer as a hunter safety instructor for Arizona Game and Fish, and a certified trap and skeet instructor as well. You may have remembered me with a camera everywhere I went in high school. Well, I still enjoy photography and the camera goes with me whenever I am outdoors, though the family revels in heckling me for taking too long to take a picture. Hey, you cannot rush art! If I could figure out how to make a living at it, I would make photography my second career. It could still happen. I also still love to ski, though I have not had a real desire to ski in Arizona (the snow mostly sucks here). I look forward to moving back to Colorado at some point after both girls are in college, as I miss real snow. I typically make it back to Colorado at least once a year for a hunting or fishing trip. The rest of the family has acclimated to Arizona and no longer likes cold weather, so I may have to keep a winter home here in AZ or face a mutiny. I have to admit that it is nice here in the winter, but it is hotter than hell here during the summer! Well that is the Cliff Notes version of life. I have often wondered what everyone has been doing since high school. I lost touch with all but a few friends since then. I would enjoy hearing from you if you have the time. I would like to find out where everyone is and what you are doing. easterbrookATcoxDOTnet Kevin
