Kevin's Story

Seems so long ago, our days at Carl Albert. Doing cartoons in the Titan Talk, painting the basketball court's Titan emblem. Surviving Titan football and basketball. Hanging with Ms. Mayo's band of art peeps. Despite helping with CA's Class of '74 25th Reunion, I've not been able to keep up on class news much and often wondered about other people I knew and buddies I had back then...Charlie Mills, Mike Bryan, David Ligon, David Holt, Mike Shires, Jess Huskey, Tommy Childers, David Borrell, Mike Mullins, David Epps, Terry Howard, David Burnett, Mike Randall, Tim Baker, Boyce Henry, Gary Futrell, Howard House, (takes breath)...Jan Miller, Janet Bell, Jane Askew, Gayla Stoddard, Marilyn Caine, Susan Sweet, Debbie Mitchell, Cheryl Colvin, Angela Mateo, Judy Hughes, Teena Dean, Robin Harryman, Kim Havenar, and many more. I've since caught up with some on the list but if anyone has news or contact info please send me a message here. Married(30 yrs), granddaughter, and semi-retired now but far from sedentary existence. I had a long (24 years) career with Sonic Corp as Sr. Advertising Director over national TV, radio, photography, print, production creative development which kept me locked to the grindstone with little time for anything else. I enjoyed my time and learned alot but realized later there is much more to life. Lost my mom in 2005 and and despite already being a card-carrying member of the tribe, I had promised her to really re-connect with our Choctaw tribal roots. I've since taken time to meet with tribal elders, attended ceremonies, and had interesting meetings with the tribe's Chief. I continue my road to embracing the Choctaw way as I look outward in what the Creator has in store ahead. Left Sonic in 2006. Sporadically did marketing consulting and shot photography professionally--photojournalism, pro-sports action, but mainly focused a couple of years on seeing the country doing long distance adventure motorcycling with kindly support of friends at BMW Motoradd. ugh you can get a sense of the world watching travel shows on the flat screen at home it's another deal entirely when you're physically standing in Alaska's Brooks mountain range or staring across choppy Atlantic Ocean waves from the rocky shores of Labrador having arrived there after weeks or months via sheer determination and motorbike. In mid 2008 a trip entailed going from OKC to and up Alaska's Ice Road/Haul Road, past the Arctic Circle to Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay and then through western Canada on to Key West, FL. Some 15,000 miles and 2 months on the road---without a single flat! In recent times, I've been fortunate enough to explore the north, dining on fresh lobster dock-side in Maine on the way to wandering into Canada's provinces east. Lots of rain, fog, cold, mud, gravel and not so strangely, a great sense of reward and wonder. There's a book in there and I'm working on it now, designing a coffee table book of my moto-travel photography...could happen.... At the end of 2008 I entered sports marketing as brand director for the Oklahoma CIty RedHawks Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team. After the RedHawks franchise was bought by a large out-of-state corporate mgt. group in 2010 and not wanting to revive a big corporate existence, I moved on to freelancing graphics and brand identity for the new Oklahoma City Barons AHL pro hockey team. Did that until the first of this year(2013). Now a partner in a small brand-identity/graphics design/consulting firm start-up but the adventure bug is still there. Hoping a few more domestic trips on the motorcycle will round out the photo imagery I need for my book project. We'll see where things go from there. That's my update. Life since Carl Albert. Things were simpler then though few of us realized it. The road after that has been amazing and unpredictable...and at times, amazingly unpredictable. Gotta love it. Would love to hear from people. Send me a message to let me know you're still out there!!!
