I was another of those damn Air Force brats who never really put down roots. Still haven't...but that's later. Went to 8th grade at Monnig and 9th grade at Stripling (Fort Worth). Never really exerted myself intellectually because, quite frankly, I was bored more often than not. My father was transferred again and off we went, winding up in San Antonio where I did graduate in the middle of the class. Not great, but not the goat, so I was happy. Joined the Navy to see the world. Went to the western Pacific, the Med, North Atlantic, Indian Ocean and other places on 2 aircraft carriers, a submarine tender and a fast frigate, all the while doing college course work. When I made Chief, I applied for a commission and waited. I was going to a school with a bunch of Army people who said I could come in and fly (especially since I had a pilots license), so I applied there too.
