Kevin's Story

Aug 2018 - Present: I am now working for ASRC Federal DNC on a Subcontract to Deloitte Consulting supporting the Governance, Requirements, and Architecture Management Support (GRAMS) Contract with the Defense Health Agency to manage the Military Health System’s information management and technology portfolio activities as well as develop MHS IM/IT functional requirements. The ASRC/Deloitte GRAMS team work also includes support for Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System process and documentation; post-implementation reviews; IT lifecycle acquisition requirements assessment; business process strategies and guidelines; business process and data management products; business process and standards analysis; and business process improvement. Sept 2016 - Aug 2018. I served as a full-time volunteer for the Christian Church Capital Area Regional Office. I worked as an Organizational Development Specialist for my denomination's Regional Office after MAI's closure in late 2016. My responsibilities and accomplishments included: * Administered implementation of approved changes in corporate responsibilities and authority across various Regional Commissions, Committees, and Constituency Groups, and Board Officers. * Led Regional Board, donors, staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders to identify achievable strategic goals based on available resources, identify new thought-leaders within extended constituencies, and begin to align the organization, vision, missions, and resources. * Collected and codified regional office business operations procedures, methods, and processes into written policies, process maps, and training materials. * Reviewed, proofed, and recommended journal entries for two separate regional General Ledger reports each month to correct incorrect account code applications by staff and other volunteers. Developed, tracked, and reported on budgets for the entire Camp and Conference Program for period 1999 through 2018. * Managed conversion of a manual conference registration program to a COTS online registration and event tracking system. Served as owner’s liaison to Software Vendor’s development representatives to provide system requirements, event program schedule and age/grade restriction information, fee information, reports requirements, user access requirements, and scholarship discount information. * Developed, cleaned, validated, and maintained Contact Database for use for mass communications across the five-state Region. * Assisted in Staff recruitment; development of position descriptions, job postings, employment applications, personnel policies, and screening tools, conducted reference checks for staff in MD and DE. * Provided training to new Regional Office and Field Site employees in the Accounting, Events Registration, and Facilities Operations processes. My Crazy Life 1976-2016 I have remained in the Falls Church-Fairfax-McLean area since high school. I attended George Mason University for a BA in Chemistry and a MA in Industrial Psychology. I worked for the local AAA Potomac (auto club) for seven years and then, after grad school, for the AAA National HQ as a consultant to AAA clubs nationwide for three more years (1986-1989). Since 1990, I have worked for Management Analysis, Incorporated, a growing management consulting firm in Vienna. My primary client during the early period with MAI was the US Army Corp of Engineers. Mostly, I performed staffing analyses of operations and maintenance personnel at dams, hydropower plants, recreation areas, and navigation locks located on rivers and lakes all over the US. I have had the pleasure of seeing actual salmon runs on the Columbia River an...Expand for more
d in Idaho, huge bass near dams in the southwest, and alligators at locks in Louisiana. Other business trips have afforded me such opportunities as being stuck (pleasantly) in traffic jams in British Columbia and Montana due to moose involved in roadside grazing and big horn sheep sunbathing between lanes of traffic. At work, I continue to conduct staffing, productivity, and process analyses for various Government clients. For volunteer work, I was the director of my denomination’s (Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)) summer camp and conference program, and had oversight of the three committees that manage two camp properties and recruit volunteers for over 15 different four-day and seven-day camp events each summer. In December 2004, I was promoted to Vice President here at Management Analysis, Inc. Since then, I continue to focus on acquisition support, staffing studies, productivity studies, and proposal writing at MAI. I have worked on different types of management studies for clients within the US Forest Service; US Dept of Health & Human Services; US Dept. of Justice, US Dept of the Treasury, and large number of State and County agencies. All very different and always a learning experience for me. During 1999 and 2000, I had a long-term consulting project at a US Army base in southwestern Germany and a short-term project at a US Navy base in Spain. During most of 1999 and early 2000, I was living half-time in Germany. Since starting these two projects, I was able to visit Prague, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Munich (Oktoberfest!), the Black Forest area, Madrid, Seville, and Tangier, Morocco. It has been interesting learning about different customs/cultures and trying to learn German from menus, signs, and TV. At least in Spain some of my high school Spanish was useful, it just takes so long to fish it out of those dusty, long-forgotten recesses of my brain. Oh well. I have been traveling a lot since working in Germany and Spain (1998-2000). In July 2003, I was invited to share a house in Tuscany (Central Italy) with GCM alumni Craig Weyant and his family. 16 of his friends and family members stayed in a recently renovated and modernized farm house dating from the 14th century in the middle of Chianti Wine country (think Napa). We went to Florence, Assisi, and small wine towns. After we parted company in Central Italy, I stayed for 2 more weeks and took a tour that included Rome, Venice, Lucerne, Paris, and London. Later in 2003, I was able to get to the canal-city of Amsterdam for five days as part of a business trip. This is truly the Venice of northern Europe. The people are great, scenery is amazing, and even in December, its a great place to visit for museums, shopping, and people watching. I was able to visit Brussels and back to other parts of Holland and the Netherlands in October in 2004. Since then I have been to: Czech Republic (2005, 2007, 2011, 2014), Hungary (2005), Italy (2006), Spain-Portugal-Morroco (2013), NZ-Australia (2016) In 2009, I moved back to Falls Church and bought my parent's house where I grew up just off Shreve Road, near Jefferson Golf Course. I now spend much of non-work time gardening (6-12 varieties of peppers) and volunteering at our two church camps in Hagerstown, MD and Bethany Beach, DE. I help train camp staff, support camp outreach / marketing efforts, update their websites, and help track their budgets. Now it is back to GCM Class of 1976 Reunion time again. Spread the word!!!! If you haven't received an email from us in May 2016, it means we don't have your current email address. Just send me a note and we will get you back on the Reunion mailing list. Thanks, Kevin
