Mustafa's Story

Life A couple of people have asked me to set up one of these things so here it goes. After high school, I graduated from Rutgers College, Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. I was a member of Chi Psi fraternity and had a kick ass time at RU. I graduated with a BA in Economics and minored in Philosophy and Math/Statistical Science. I then worked for Dow Jones and Company in Princeton, NJ for three years before going back to grad school. I was a JD/MBA candidate at Columbia University in the city of New York but ultimately was not happy with that route and ended up finishing my pre-medical requirements at Columbia (earning a second undergraduate degree) and subsequently went on to medical school at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. I attended med school on a US Army Scholarship. I attended the US Army officers' basic course in San Antonio, TX and was commisioned a second lieutenant in the US Army. I then met my wife, Jeanine, after attending the officers' basic course and finished up med school in Philadelphia and was married at the end of my thrid year of med school. The ceremony took place at Kirkpatrick Chapel, Old Queens Campus, Rutgers University. I was married in my Army Dress Blues. We then went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and I also did my first rotation of 4th year in Urologic surgery in Honolulu at Tripler Army Medical Center (over 7 weeks in Hawaii was awesome and I knew I had to go back there). By the mid portion of my 4th year my wife and I found out that she was pregnant with twins that were probably going to be identical. So, we finished up med school and rolled out to Honolulu, HI where I became a father of beautiful twin baby girls and a first year surgical resident. I finished my surgical internship ang general surgery residency portion of my training but opted to not to go into further training in Urologic Surgery. Hawaii was a great place to live but during my tenure there, I was too busy with surgery to enjoy it fully. Not to mention the fact that I was a sleep deprived new father of twins going to a break neck year in General Surgery internship. I then attended the US Army School of Aviation Medicine at Fort Rucker, AL and earned my Army flight wingss. I was then deployed to the US Army's only forward-deployed heavy airlift battalion: 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment at Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea. We flew the CH-47D (Chinook) airacraft. I served as the battalion Flight Surgeon for one year and had a great time serving my country. I also got to visit some of the most exotic sp...Expand for more
ots in Asia. Finally, I am back in the United States and am currently assigned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and also to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD where I am going on to further medical training in Radiology in order to become a surgical radiologist (i.e. interventional radiologist). My life has taken a few twists and turns along its route; but ultimately I am very grateful to be where I am today. Please do not hesitate in contacting me if you have any questions. I would love to see how everyone is doing. Support our troops both here and abroad and God bless the U.S.A. !!!! -Mustafa M. Ali-Khan, MD Captain, Medical Corps United States Army School Rutgers University was awesome. I had a great time in College and could not have hoped for a better experience. I pledged Chi Psi Fraternity and lived in the Lodge for my junior and senior years. The majority of my best friends are my fraternity brothers from college. The rest are my close friends from the US Army. College Rutgers University was awesome. I had a great time in College and could not have hoped for a better experience. I pledged Chi Psi Fraternity and lived in the Lodge for my junior and senior years. The majority of my best friends are my fraternity brothers from college. The rest are my close friends from the US Army. Workplace I work at the 2 best hospitals in the world: Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC and National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Why are they the best U ask? The best patients (i.e. Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen who take care of our country and keep her strong). In addition, the best physicians giveing the best care in the world are there. I am proud to be affiliated with such fine personnel and know this will propel me in the future allowing me to be the best physician possible. Military What can I say. Hmmm...... we are currently an Army at War so it is sort of precarious to be an active duty servicemember in the Armed Forces today. However, I have had a great time in the Army and will probably end up retiring from the military before starting my civilian career as a Physician. I will be promoted to Major next year. The best doctors I have met personally have all been Military Physicians at one time in their career. Fort Sam Houston, TX in San Antonio: need I say more? My Army buds know what a great time we had in the sweltering heat of the summer during our Officer's Basic Course back in the '90's. Good friends and good times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
