Kim's Story
Where was I during high school? It's a blur....I'm not sure I really want to remember. LOL!
But....I made it past 30 successfully. I now live on the Suwannee River in North Florida [yes, the Suwannee River of song and legend] with my husband, Ted, & our two furchildren, Gus & Saba. It's beautiful here, but I'm always reminded that we actually live in the Wilderness every time I try to plant something. Something always eats it. My brother Sterlin' says he lives in the country, but Ted & I live in the Wilderness. Complete with panthers and alligators and snakes. I love it.
The river behaves like a river should...we have a flood every spring during ...uh.... La Nina? It comes up slowly, so it's not like a flash flood. But we have had 8 feet of water under our house. We actually drove our boat under the house. Our treehouse is 20 feet in the air...the back deck has a big live oak growing thru i...Expand for more
t. Right now it is El Nino - very dry. And sandy. Ted always built things in red Georgia clay, so building in sand has been a new experience for both of us. Sand is a living creature that drifts & moves.
I also have chickens! I love my chickens. Ted had to build a roof over the chicken pen to keep hawks & owls from taking off with my birds. It will eventually have a second story for floods, but right now we have to have a Chicken Rodeo...We gather them up & bring them up to the back deck when it floods.
The Suwannee is a beautiful wild river, federally protected, so it is truly wild! It's a black river - the water is black[ish] from the tannin that comes out of the Ockeefenokee Swamp at the headwaters. However, the springs all along it are crystal clear. It is one of the cleanest rivers in the US.
So....I have effectively skipped all the nasty bits of my life. This is what my life is today!
