Kim's Story

Life My life has been a definite learning experience of late. I divorced my husband of 18 years, dealt with cancer, met my current husband, and am back in school now accumulating prerequisites required to obtain my BSN. I now have over 109 college credit hours and after this year's fall semester, I will have enough to apply to the BSN (bachelor's in nursing) program of my choice. I've been a clinic nurse or medical assistant for the last 26 years and have always wanted my nursing degree. At 47, I guess it's about time! I've also owned and operated two business in the past; one a fast food restaurant, and the other a body & bath gift shop. Right now, while going to school full time, I subsidize my income by, get this, waitressing!(it does help with the upper body strength) I also have a second job as an optometrist's assistant. Oh what we do to accomplish our goals and dreams. I guess what I ...Expand for more
could say was my biggest accomplishment; I am truly happy. I'm finally comfortable in my own skin, and am excited to take on my new vocation...student of education and student of life. I'm sure that sounds really sappy, but it is so true! Once I finally get my degree, I suppose I will feel I've accomplished one goal. But ultimately, my true goal is to be content with my life and its accomplishments. School Doc Jernigan was the one teacher that really inspired my love for science. I always knew I wanted to be in a 'service' field, and nursing met my compassionate and comforting side I've always had. I've just recently talked to Doc and found out that he's the director of the Science Exhibit at Union Station!! Can you believe the guy is close to seventy!?! I still remember a fairly short, red-haired man in bell bottoms. I haven't seen him since high school and can't wait to see him today.
