CLASS OF 1976

Kim's Story

My husband met Mike in Japan when they were both in the Navy. We met 28 years ago. I have lived in Florida the last 13 years. I have been married for the last 10 years. I am a 7th grade reading teacher this year. I taught special ed the last 5 years. Teaching has been the best thing I have ever done. I look forward to everyday. No two days are exactly the same. I do not always get it right. Teenagers... Everyday I learn something new. All of these kids leave something with me. I was the butthead who vasoline/salted the toilet seats in the girls' math bathroom in 1976. In 1978 I lived in Kenai/Soldotna and Anchorage Alaska. Twenty years old and legal to drink until 5am everyday. woohoo Around 1992 I was a flagger working on the construction of the Chief Joseph Highway 40 miles NW of Cody, Wyoming. In 1995 I moved to Florida to live with Paul Holland. In 1998 came back to WA to care for my mom the last 8 weeks of her life. Spending the last weeks with her was a gift, but there is still pain. I got married (for the first and only ti...Expand for more
me) in Montesano at the old courthouse. Had a fight at our reception-welcome to the family! Spent one night at the Quinalt Indian Reservation Inn for a honeymoon. My mom died 11 days later. Who'd-a-thunk I'd get married? I am a stepmom. We get along well. One has graduated college and the other has two years to go. I would love to see Mrs. Berry from Lydia Hawk Elementary school, again. I'd love to see Mrs. Kuula again. I could never figure why a nice lady like that married Mr. Kuula. To be truly happy I'd live on an island with Paul and our dogs. We'd spend our time fishing, snorkeling and wiping the sand off. We'd have our own rum punch recipe, and have to get in a little boat to go to a bigger island for commercial endeavors. I never thought I would love and be loved, or have so much fun while sober. Life has been worth living since I turned 37. I am so grateful I lived that long to know this other life. For those who were kind or at least not mean, I hope you make the life you want. For all the rest of you, I do not miss you.
