Hi folks! I graduated from Brandon High in (gulp) 1969, and headed to Tampa's local university (USF) to become a scientist. I graduated with a degree in Geology, then promptly accepted an offer from U. of Delaware to get a graduate degree in Marine Geochemistry -- fun stuff, but I had to move to Yankeeland! It was a bit of a cultural shock, but I adjusted, and even thrived. I met my first husband in Philadelphia (a data processing whiz for Dept. of Defense and a restaurant owner), and joined the federal force as an environmental project manager preparing environmental impact statements (EISs) for the Dept. of Navy. I got so good at it, I became known as the Navy's "Dredge Queen", and was promoted to Navy headquarters in Washington DC to run the whole EIS program. This was an incredibly exciting time, as I and my staff were involved in virtually every aspect of Navy activities, and actually developed the Navy's marine mammal program, which is funded at $20 million/year now. In 2002, I left Navy for a promotion at EPA, where I became a manager/Deputy Director for the EPA office that oversees all other feds in EIS development.
