Kimberly's Story
Life
I currently live in Hagerstown and work at North Hagerstown High School teaching students math. I also serve as a Link Crew Coordinator and a Small Learning Communities Advisories Coordinator at North High, and had served as the SGA Advisor for the past 12 years. I took a year off from teaching and served as a Student Leadership Specialist at the Maryland State Department of Education, but found that I missed the classroom and my students too much to stay away! My daughter is a senior at Frostburg State University and my son is a sophomore at Hagerstown Community College. I live with my partner of 12 years, who also teaches phys ed, at North. I enjoy spending time with her and the kids doing home improvement, gardening, and the many activities we are involved with at school!
College
My college experience was different then most people. I waited until I got out of the military, had two small children, and worked to make it through college within the fou...Expand for more
r year time span. I enjoyed the staff at Hood College, and loved the family atmosphere. The mathematics department was the best ever...with Dr. Seymour and Betty! hahaha We had the best of classes...and we knew it!
Workplace
Work is less like "work" and more like a calling. I really enjoy the opportunities that I have to make a difference. One of my peers once told me that I teach because I never left high school myself, and you know what, that is exactly why I enjoy my job so much! I have been here at North High for the past 10 years, and fully expect to retire from here. I will always by a knight....but I am forever a Hub as well! Students seem to enjoy my classes, our SGA is recognized across the state, and I rarely have a free minute to do much ... as I always have students on my doorstep. I could not ask for a better job, or for a better place to do it...except maybe at Middletown with my favorite Bob Sheffler! :) Would LOVE to hear from you!
