Kimberly's Story

Life I recently moved back to Utah after living in Las Vegas for six years where I worked as a high school English teacher. My husband and I decided that living in a place where you could see naked women on billboards may not be the best place to raise children (although I understand the male population is growing by the hour), so we chose to put down roots in Utah once again. Being from Kentucky, Christian, my husband, is still adjusting to the change in culture, but we're happier here now that there's free babysitting just down the street (aka Grandma and Grandpa). Christian and I met while we both taught at Mojave High School. He was a math teacher, I was a Spanish teacher. I do not know Spanish, but I took a few classes in college and that was good enough for the Clark County School District. Another reason we left, the schools stink in Vegas. We got married a year and a half later, and three years after we were married, we welcomed Kaitlynne into our home. She's 4 years old now and keeps us laughing. After Kaitlynne was born, I quit my job to be a full-time mom. I thought handling 245 hormonal teenagers was difficult, but Kaitlynne has shown me the new definition of exhaustion. I recently certified to become a fitness instructor for 24 Hour Fitness and am currently teaching spinning class...Expand for more
es 5 times a week. I love it. Three months after I started teaching, I got pregnant and we now have another beautiful girl, Ali, who is 4 months old. I love my job even more for keeping me in shape and helping with a speedy delivery. I taught a cycle class a few hours before Ali was born. We almost had her on the freeway. She arrived 8 minutes after we parked the car at the hospital! Thankfully, Christian has received his master's in administration and we fully plan for him to the principal at whatever school Kaitlynne and Ali attend. He is currently a vice-principal intern at Brighton High School. I recently got into running and biking and have completed a few marathons and century bike rides. I even qualified for the Boston Marathon which I will run in April 2009. My brother, also a West Jordan graduate, served his country in Iraq as an engineer rebuilding schools. One benefit of living here was that we were able to help his 7 year old son on those bad days when he missed his dad. It was hard on all of us. Christian and I traveled a lot before we had kids, trying to get that traveling bug out of us. It just isn't as much fun schleping around diaper bags and strollers around the airport. We've been everywhere from Paris to Hawaii. We hope to do more, but for now we'll settle for Hogle Zoo.
