Kimberly's Story
My personal email address is: hargankg at netscape.net.
A short precis of what I have been up to: I went to Brigham Young University for a BS and to the State University of New York at Albany for an MA and almost a PhD in archaeology. I was a missionary in Germany and did graduate research on the Classic Maya in the jungle in Belize. Then I joined the Foreign Service (originally the U.S. Information Agency, but then we were absorbed into the Department of State). The posts in my diplomatic career have been Copenhagen, Denmark; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (where I learned to scuba dive in the Indian Ocean); Beijing, China (and the second year of my Mandarin Chinese studies was in Taibei, Taiwan); USIA's Information Technology Division in Washington, D.C.; a short stint in Alm...Expand for more
aty, Kazakhstan; the U.S. Consulate in Yekaterinburg, Russia (the Urals and Siberia); a short stint in the Caucasus and Central Asia Office in Washington (at the time of 9/11); Yerevan, Armenia; Helsinki, Finland; and then back to the Department of State in Washington for my last five years. As a result, I speak (to varying degrees of fluency) German, Danish, Russian, Armenian, Mandarin Chinese, Finnish and Spanish. I retired from the diplomatic life in 2014. I have four children by my first wife, and now four granddaughters and two grandsons as well. My current wife and stepdaughter are from Omsk, in Siberia. My first novel, The Dauphin's Lost Jewels, a science ficti0n detective thriller, was published by Pro Se Press in December 2016. (You can find it on Amazon.com.)
