Kimberly's Story

Kim is from Jacksonville, Arkansas. Kim’s schools included Jacksonville Elementary, Junior High South and Jacksonville High School. Kim later attended the University of Central Arkansas, Williams Baptist College, Arkansas State University in Beebe and finished her BSE at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Kim worked as an elementary teacher for 27 years in the Cabot School District. She retired in 2020. Kim’s music likes include country music from old school Hank, Jr and George to Luke Combs, Zac Brown Band, Lady A, and Little Big Town. I still like rock and pop music, too. When I’m not reading a professional book or a book to my class I like authors Mitch Albom and Richard Paul Evans. Speaking of movies I like romantic comedies. I don’t watch much TV, but when I do it’s either a short 30 min. comedy like Big Bang or Mom. Also like the house flipping shows. One of Kim’s favorite quotes is: “Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.” A favorite scripture is Romans 8:28 “All things work together for good...” Other quotes I like... "It is better to remain silent, and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." "You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit!" "Life is not the way it's supposed to be...it's the way it is...the way we cope with it is what makes the difference." "It is what it is." "Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust and hostility to evaporate.” “What goes around comes around.” :) I have no secrets...I'm pretty predictable and practical! mother, teacher, and friend. I grew up the only child of a great set of parents who allowed me to make my own mistakes...some of which I actually learned from. I have two beautiful, stubborn, know-it-all children; Kyle, is in his fourth year of college at ATU and Natalie, is 17 and a junior in high school. Kyle arrived 7 weeks early and completely unexpected. He spent 3 weeks in the NICU before coming home. I learned I was a grown up during that process. If I didn't speak up for my baby, no one else would either. My only wish 4 years later was for a healthy full term baby...figured I could handle anything else! God has a sense of humor. I got the full term baby, but with her came all kinds of feeding and stomach problems. We spent the first 6 months of her life trying to figure out what was wrong and then the next 2 making her better. Finally, after 9 months, she slept all night and we began to feel somewhat normal again. I'm a protective mom, for obvious reasons, and it used to scare me to think about them growing up and going out into the cold, cruel world without me. I just completed my 27 year teaching career. I had taught all grades kindergarten through 6th grade. I spent 12 years teaching 1st grade...the only grade I NEVER wanted to teach! Waaay too much responsibility on the teacher! Then 10 years teaching 3rd grade. The rest of my time was in 2nd grade. It was exciting and nervous all at the same time! Teaching is highly rewarding, extremely exhausting, and SO, SO underappreciated. I have a close circle of great friends who are always there for me. I don't know how I would make it without them...words can't express how special they are to me. :)

It is what it is!
Happy Mother's Day to my Momma!! Everything I know about being a momma, I learned from her! There is no better example of one who is loving, selfless, caring, wise and strong. The only thing better than having her as a mom
