Kimberly's Story

My life is a garden and I'm digging it! :) Hi, My name is Kim Kilcollins-McCollum. I was born in Whittier, Ca. in 1959. Besides living in California, I have also lived in Arizona, Georgia and Nevada. After completing middle school at E. Otis Vaughn in 1973, I began high school at Earl Wooster high school in Reno, Nevada when in the spring of 1974, my parents made the decision to relocate to Donner Summit, Ca. and I began attending Tahoe-Truckee high school at that time and I graduated from T-N-T in 1977. I continued my education at the University of Nevada-Reno in their School of Medicine where I studied Speech Pathology and Audiology from 1979-1982. I lived on campus in Manzanita Hall for one year and then moved into the Theta house after pledging Kappa Alpha Theta. I was also a Sigma Nu little sister and loved every minute of the Greek life. Animal House and toga parties were the big thing back then and it was a kick in the pants! I've been happily married to my wonderful husband Jeff for the past 19 1/2 years and we have a beautiful 14 year old daughter whom we think is a pretty cool young lady. My husband and I own a trophy and awards business and I spend a great deal of time in the shop making trophies and plaques. My good friend Karen and I are 4-H leaders for a rabbit and cavy (guinea pig) 4-H club and I am actively involved in every aspect of 4-H. I love all my 4-H kids for who they are and enjoy spending time with them and watching them grow. I don't think Karen and I could have asked for a better group of kids to work with! I have an extremely sarcastic sense of humor and it's always getting me in trouble because I continually find myself saying "I hope you didn't take that seriously" for fear that I've offended someone with one of my comments. I also have a quirky sense of humor and some people just don't know how to take my jokes or comments. I have a quick temper and will defend myself or others when provoked, I don't like dealing with rude people and will let them know it in a heartbeat. Regardless, it's all good, I prefer peace and tranquility over hostility...always have and always will. The bottom line is, I just want enjoy my life while I'm here. The one thing I enjoy the most is spending quality time with my family and friends. I love animals and thank goodness my husband and daughter share this affininty with me because we have quite a LARGE variety living at our home, (inside and outside.) We've recently added two horses to our menagerie and they are both the best horses in the world! Boulder is a chestnut Appendix quarter horse. He's quite the love baby and very, very smart! He stands tall at 17 hands high and I just love him to death! Cupid's Magic Man is a black and white paint and he's shorter than Boulder. He is only 14 and 1/2 hands ...Expand for more
high, but an absolute sweetheart as well. We also recently added two beautiful Dwarf Hottot rabbits named Mabelline and Ringo to our family of fur babies and they are just the cutest things you've ever seen! Right now I consider my life to be good and I thank God for all my blessings, my loving family and wonderful friends. I look forward to each day and hope that I can always live for the moment. I believe that each day is a gift and is to be savored. I see too many people living in the past or looking forward to the future and it seems like they forget that the present is really what we should be focusing on and living in. Don't give up your dreams for what is to come or forget your past, just remember that we are all mortal and we never know when our time is going to be up. On November 25th, 2007, I lost THE most important man in my life. My hero, my mentor, my protector, my counselor, my father, Eric Kilcollins. Please remember to take time to let people know how much you love them because you never know when they'll be gone from your life. Always say goodbye with an "I love you" and never walk away from anyone when you are angry with them, resolve your issues, say your apologies and let love guide you. We were blessed to be able to let my dad know how much we loved him while he was still with us, but there are so many out there who aren't given the opportunity and once it's too late, it really is too late! My favorite saying is "Live Well, Laugh Often and Love Much" I believe those are pretty much the guidelines we should follow in order to have a happy life. Namaste' My interests: I enjoy so many things that I honestly don't think I could list all of them. I like riding my mountain bike, UNR Wolfpack games, kayaking, volunteering at a local senior home, hiking, sitting by a fire and watching the snow come down outside, MX racing, the Winter Olympics, going out to dinner with my 4-H buds after a show, a good sense of humor, Lake Tahoe, skiing, jet skiing, boating, snorkeling, the ocean, summer parties and bbq's, girls-night-out, my adorable animals (fur babies), anything that involves my daughter, my husband or a family member, 4-H events, swimming, hiking, camping, cake decorating (yes...I'm a professional cake decorator), funny movies that make me laugh until I cry, sitting by a campfire enjoying the evening with good friends, walking in the rain by myself, a good margarita with salt on the rim, horseback riding, riding my vintage dirt bike (Hodaka Dirt Squirt), Harley Davidsons, watching the X-Games, working with teens and children, OMG! TRYING to beat Guitar Hero III, playing classical music on my piano or trying to play my new Fender guitar... (Honestly, I think I'm better at Guitar Hero) and any good times I can spend with my family and friends! :)
