Kip's Story
High spirits to all that visit! I live in Tarzana w/ my wife, Susan. We joined vows April 6, 1968, I was then drafted; sent to M.P school in Augusta, GA, then served in 'Nam as convoy security, then special legal investigator in MACV HQ, then built culverts, a Tactical Operation center, jeep mechanic and prisoner escort - learning that M.P. meant Multiple Person. I even help "boost" a 7.62 mini-gun from an Air Force supply depot near Ben Hoa for our own V-100 armored car; I was there from December 7th, 1968 to Dec. 6 1969. (What a waste, 'war is not the answer' is more than a slogan to me). I finished up as a patrolman in Leavenworth, KS; I almost had to arrest my own platoon Sgt. for being drunk with a semiautomatic in hand- he swore his best friend and wife were having too much fun together{ OK, he didn't say it like that, it involved alot of four letter words, but you get the picture}, I got the f___ got out in July 1971. We lived in W.LA and I worked at HillCrest Cadillac and we rode our bicycles down on the Strand in Venice on the weekends. ln Feb. of '74, we bought our home in Tarzana. We traveled around the States a bit before we were blessed with two girls, Ursula in 1976 and Samantha in 1978. Ursula just got her Masters in Education and my youngest got her B.A. in Special Education and is working towards her Masters'. I was a general contractor(yes licensed!) with Sue's father for about 18 years. He had a 32' Islander sail boat in Marina Del Rey, and we usually found more time to go play than work, but I leaned a lot. through the lowest of drug houses-(yes the police got there first!) to the hill top estates of movie stars homes and everything in between. It's been a real educating experience! Speaking of which I was an Adult Edu. teacher for 15 yrs. with the L.A.U.S.D.- I taught CA. State License Law, Construction Technologies, and TypeV (5) Plan drawing. I retired last year (2010). I am still an Inspector with L.A.D.B.S. I have a side job- I investigate construction defects/contractor faults and contract violations and I prepare photos & reports for litigation purposes by the injured parties., (Construction Forensic Investigations). Sue and I did a lot of traveling to Washington state, Orcas Isl. where her parents lived until their passing('09/'10). We love Seattle, even the rain! We drove to central FLA. this past April (2011) to see Ursula get her Degree, Samy joined us there then I took my crew down to Key West as a grad present. Then drove back to CA. We're doin' a road-trip to see Sues brother in Denver, then down to Phoenix to see her sister this September(2011). ( If you think we drive too much, consider that I hate airports!, and the Lex 400Rh makes it a sweeet ride too). "Jack" is not all work here; I have an O-gauge train layout with 10 different engines and about 80+ cars, which I "putz" around with when I feel in the mood. And I got hooked on the History channel years ago and I assemble 1/48 and 1/24th scale 'mini' dioramas of armored vehicles in combat zones-(keeps my hands busy and off other women). Suzie swears it would be cheaper if I had a girlfriend on the side instead of these big-boy toys. I'm not a betting man, but I bet she's right. Well, that it in a nut shell.
